Buying 2003 3.2TL-S

Would a 2003 Acura 3.2TL-S have less of a problem with the tranny than the 2001-2002 TL's? I was wondering because i was gonna get a TL's http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...985&cardist=14 ALso i carfaxed the car and it was a clean car. No damage or anything. IS it a good Deal/Idea to buy this CAR?? Thank you all for your future inputs.

That's not a bad deal but you'll still may have tranny issues its not guaranteed your tranny will die. I got mine for 17.5K with 32K miles almost a year ago

A 2003 TL has the same transmission reliability problems as the 2000-2002 TLs. Acura may have corrected the problem with revisions made in February of 2005.

And a 2003 TL, unlike the 1999-2002 TLs, may not have the 7 year/100,000 mile extended warranty on the transmission. You can contact Acura with the VIN number and they can tell you the warranty info.

BTW, read the CarFax disclosure carefully so you're fully informed. A clean CarFax report doesn't mean the car didn't have any work on it. It only covers REPORTED problems. It's a good start though! It may also give you some clues as to where it was serviced (or the owner may tell you) so that you can call the servicing dealer (if there was one) and learn more about it.

The carfax is clean and we just test drove the car just last week and it was in top condition. no problems with the tranny slipping at all. http://www.carfax.com//UUCP_ViewReport. DO you guys have any other advice or problems to look for when looking at this tl? any info would be appreciated and could guarantee of buying a excellent condition tl.

I'm in the same boat, just bought a new '03 Type-S, and am kind of worried about the tranny but I treat her gently. Hopefully she'll be good to me. I get lots of comments about it because the type-s is fairly rare to see.

Treating her gently wont change anything, if its going to go its going to go.

Car fax is barely worth more than what your salesman tells you. You need to get an Acura Dea, er, dealer to run a warranty claims report (or a service history report). I found things there that did not show on carfax...

That is a good idea. I need to have that done one of these days. I'm still trying to figure out why my TL-S was auctioned off rather than resold at the dealer when the lease was up.

I just bought a 03 tl-s and what disgusted me the most with Carfax is if the tranny was replaced the carfax will still be clean. Recall work is not under the umbrella of things that carfax reports.

I'm very happy with the car though. Make sure to check with a dealership to see if the VIN is within the recall range. I wouldn't have bought mine if it wasn't.
