Thumbs up Busy Weekend Installing Stuff!!

Got some electrical work done this weekend. Got my shock sensor and Valentine 1 installed. The shock sensor is sweet. I did adjust it so it's pretty sensative. A little know on the car and it will go off. I may make it a little less sensative, but not much, I mean, people shouldn't be knocking on the car anyway. The V1 is sweet too, but very sensative. It picks up every little signal. I'll probably set it to logic mode so it doesn't pick up all of the X-band alerts from buildings. I also got my fogs rewired (finally) which is really cool. Now I can turn them on without the headlights being on, just the parking lights. We left it so they still go off when you put the highbeams on so Acura won't give me any crap when I have the car inspected. Looks like the intake is next.....

How much did you pay for the shock sensor installation?? Did you do it yourself? What about the delay? I spoke with an alarm guy and he told me that there is only a 15 second delay or the alarm will never go off. Know anything about that?

Phantom.... a friend of the family did everything for me. I printed the directions for the fogs and shock sensor, and all he had to do on the V1 was hardwire it for me (I ran all of the other cables). The shock sensor was around $11 from autotoys.com. The install and rewiring the fogs, following the directions took him about 25 min. total for both. As for the delay, what happens is the shock sensor doesn't "activate" itself until about 15 seconds after you set the alarm. After that, it's on all of the time. I have it so sensative that if you just knock on the car it goes off. I may turn that down a little so a truck going by doesn't trigger it, but either way, I love it. Of course a shock sensor wouldn't stop that first whack on the bumper from a headlight thief, but the alarm will go off immediately and I'll keep my headlights.....

I hope I can post this b/c Tim doesn't sell it..... autotoys.com. I actually mentioned that in my reply. They sell two, one which is just a shock sensor, and one that is a shock sensor for factory alarms. Buy the cheaper one, the regular sensor (I think it was $10.50). I think they're on to the fact that people like myself are buying the sensor, so they added a new item and labeled it "for factory alarms", but it's about $30 and it's basically the same thing.....

BTW, I have checked the alarm since I got it, and I've set the car off anywhere from 2 min. to 4 hours after initially getting out of the car and setting the alarm, so it looks like it's active as long as the alarm is armed.....

Juniorbean,

I was actually looking for the installation instructions. Did that come with the sensor or did you have to pull it off the web somewhere?

It's hard wired to the ignition....not exactly sure as to how. The guy who did the install for me did the hard wiring part. I'm sure anyone who has experience with car stereos or alarms could do this. I don't, so that's why I went to someone who did. In addition, the V1 manual gives you instructions on how to hard wire the V1. They're not great, but they're there.....
