Burlwood to Blackwood Conversion
Burlwood to Blackwood Conversion
Has anyone done this? I've read a few different sides to the stories as far as having to replace the whole door panel, etc. I have an AM, and I'm sorry if anyone disagrees, but Acura was friggin nuts putting black leather and burlwood inside a grey car!!! Anyway, hopefully I'm not reposting a thread that is old.
Thanks

Oh,no doubt! Don't get me wrong, I love my black interior!!!! But a grey car with black leather and Burlwood(brown wood graine)??? That doesn't make any sense when they have the Blackwood trim in other models. Whoever was matching interior/exterior trim obviously needed a kick to the back of the head on that decision! LOL
I had my burlwood painted Satin Silver Metallic to match the car.
Removing the pieces is fairly easy, when you remove the door panels, you can see the plastic moldings that are holding the trim in place. You have to drill out the plastic and the trim will come out no problem.
The easy part is removing the trim, the hard part is getting them back in here. A combination of hot glue and short screws in to the original plastic moldings worked for me.
If you only use hot glue, eventually with opening/closing the doors over time, the trim will seperate again.
Good luck!

The only problem is if you want to do it you either have to buy all new door panels or be lucky to find them in the junk yard with the black wood on them. You cant buy just the door wood pieces. You can buy the center console pieces though.

Here ya go, I snapped these just now, it's gloomy as hell out right now so the shine is a bit lacking, but you'll get the idea. They were painted using the SSM color code. On a nice day, they shine like the car, really beat the hell out of the burl/blackwood idea and I even prefer it over the aluminum brushed look.
I had considered the black wood, but like kris said, it's hard to find the pieces since they are not available seperate from the door panels via Honda. So this was $220 to get this done, and really added to the sporty-ness of the car. My paint guy said he could paint a wood wheel the same color also, as long as I don't drive with rings on my hand, the paint would hold up forever, but I never got around to it.

I want to do something similar. The problem is that i have the OEM wood kit (covers the stereo, hvac, etc) And I think it would be overkill if I painted it all SSM. Anybody have any ideas?
