Is bug and tar remover safe for large sections of the car?
I have spots on my car I can't seem to get out through washing, and also some wierd wax-like residue that leaves rainbow streaks when I try and dry my car after washing it. I used dawn and normal car wash and the residue is still there, along with some sap spots and what looks like water spots that won't wash off. I'm thinking of just using bug and tar removed on whole panels of the car, is this bad for the paint? anyone know a better way of cleaning off the REALLY hard to clean things?

Have you tried claying those sections ? I find claying works for a lot of spots that won't come clean with dawn or car wash shampoo. You do want to remove bugs and tar as soon as possible. Especially bugs. Bug guts are extremely acidic (like bird bombs) and do not take very long to etch a spot in your clearcoat.
If you're looking for a bug and tar remover, I'd go with Stoner's Tarminator.

As for water spots, depending on how bad they are, usually a good polishing or paint cleaning will get them out.
Hope this helps. Good Luck
