Post Broken Stud

I broke one of the stud from the wheel while I tried to replace to my chrome rim. I got little concerned to drive with only 4 studs on the wheel cuz i usually drive above 90mph. So i took it to the dealer and they told me it would cost me 179$ to replace the stud. He said the stud costs like 9.99$ and the rest is for the labor. I was like "U gotta be kiddin.!!" How much does it usually cost other places except the dealer??!

That sounds about right. They have to take apart the hub assembly in order to remove and replace the studs.

i had the same thing happened to me a year ago. i spent $5.95 for the stud and did the work myself. it's actually very simple, i am sure any corner garage can do it in one hour. it's acutally very simple. you take the wheel off. take out the big nut in the center of the hub and then gently knock the rotor out. with a hammer and screw driver, knock out the broken stud and put the new one in. if you are handy, it should not take you more than an hour to do it.

Don't forget to remove the brake caliper assembly.
