Don't Buy It
Don't buy a car with a branded title because it basically means that the vehicle was declared 'totalled' by the insurance company and sold for parts, but apparently, someone purchased the vehicle and did 'repairs' on it to sell it as a vehicle with a branded title.
Branded could mean many things - was in a flood, a fire, was in a severe accident with major damage beyond the value of the car, etc. 'Branded' can be defined differently from state to state, so check with your local state rules to find out what it could mean.
Why shouldn't you buy one?
- you found the first reason, many insurance companies won't cover them
- reselling a car with a branded title is hard, if not impossible
- dealers will not honor warranties (if you think there is one)
- they may not be safe, if not put together properly and with proper parts
Run a Carfax report on any used car to find out if it was branded prior to purchasing it...cheap insurance!
