Brakes/Rotors

pads are around $48.00 and turning the rotors is the same labor charged for a brake job--standard 2 hours labor at roughly $75.00 per hour customer pay---so you're looking at $200. I'm a service writer myself (at Jaguar) and Acura is in our same shop. That's what we charge here roughly--it's kind of high I know. I just got my rotors turned on my TL and the pads were only 50% so they left them on. I suggest you do that if your pads are around 50% as the pads will conform to the rotors once they are turned. If you are 30% or less on the pads, go ahead and replace them. The only thing is you will have to pay that labor rate twice if you don't replace the pads at this time. I only paid $48.00 for 2 hours labor as an employee and I thought $50 to just turn rotors was high. Oh well that's how we make a living I suppose.

Quick question on a similar subject: I was on TireRack and they only sell front rotors. Why is this? Is it ok to just replace the front rotors?
Thanks,
Joe

front pads/rotors will need to be replaced more often than the rear, as 80% of the braking is done in the front. Usually the pulsating feel from the brake pedal has to do with front rotors being warped. Rear brakes can last to like 80k miles or so in lots of cases. I don't know why TireRack wouldn't sell rear rotors, but I think they run close to the same amount of money as the front

I got my iRotors (www.irotors.com) straight from their website and have been very happy with them. TireRack is also a good site.

I was pretty disappointed to learn that after driving my car for 30,000 miles I would need to pay $179 for the front brake pads and $179 for the back.
My car shakes like a shivering nun whenever I brake from anything higher than 40 mph.
Does the price change from dealer to dealer? That amount just seems really, really high.
