brake system question? reasonable?
my driver side rear rotor is grinding down bad where there is metal scraping off when i brake. i basically only have the front brakes being used to stop
.ne way i brought it to STS auto center to get an estimate. they said i need new rotors, calipers, pads, fluid. came out to $814 with labor included. is that to much?
cant i just get new rotors and pads since its just really the rotor and pads that look really bad? since thats all i really need i think and can get em for about $300 with install since thats how i paid for my fronts.
do i really need new calipers since STS quoted me $350 for the pair.

If your caliper is locked up, then you probably need a new one or new ones. Calipers lock up if you drive the way you're driving "rotor is grinding down bad where there is metal scraping off".
Bottom line, rotors and pads take me about 20 minutes for fronts, and the same for the back. That's less than 1hr of labor. I pay about 100 bux for front rotors and pads. I've never had to change the back rotors so to change the pads, it takes about 10 minutes each side.
Figure about the same though... You're up to 200 + labor. Figure they will charge you 1 1/2hr's of labor at $75.00/hr +. Calipers can be changed in 5 minutes each. I don't know how much they are but they shouldn't be too much.
So are they overcharging you.... 350$ for a pair of calipers! I'm not sure if an auto salvage yard can sell you calipers, but if you can call a salvage yard, you might be able to save yourself a bundle.
