Brake rotor retaining screw question...

I'm fixing to install some Rotora Slotted rotors and EBC greenstuff pads on the front of my '02 TL-S. Before I get started I'd like to find out if anyone has had any problems getting the rotor retaining screw out? If so, how'd you do it?

By using appropriate screwdriver. It is Phillips type screw and needs #3 screwdriver. You have to be careful not to screw the screw though, which you may do easily by using small, inappropriate screwdriver. Some people suggest using special torque screwdriver but I think the regular is just fine if it the right size.

Good luck with that and be careful. When I replaced the factory front rotors with slotted rotors on my '02 Odyssey, those retaining screws WOULD NOT UNSCREW, even with the appropriate sized phillips. I then hit the phillips screwdriver with a mallet in an attempt to unfreeze the screw; no such luck. I yelled, cursed some more, kicked the dog...nothing helped! I wound up stripping both screws and drilling them out. Not a pleasant experience...

You should go an buy/rent and impact screwdriver. You'll need it to loosen the two screws. The heat and elements take a number of them and they are in there very tight. Chances are you'll strip them using a regular screwdriver. Here's one type of impact screwdriver. If you have an AutoZone near you, they'll rent you one for free.

Here is a hint: If you don't have an impact screwdriver handy, Use a #3 phillips head drill bit with a socket wrench. Press tightly with one hand and the socket wrench will break them loose pretty easily. This worked great when I switched the rotors on my TL.

Thanks for the tips. I'll get an impact driver just to be on the safe side.

Put Rotora slotted rotors all around in my 02 TL-s. Impact screwdriver is a godsend! Works like "budda!" I was able to reuse the same screws afterwards.

Good luck!
