Brake Install Issue, Please Advise

Yesterday, i replaced my front rotors and brake pads with the Rotora Rotors and the Axiss Ultimate brake pads, and they work great , but it seems like my pedal has gotten deeper, like you have to push further down to stop the vehicle, i don't think it was like that previously, can anyone give there thought on why this happened, i checked a lot of things and everything seems normall. The car actually stops great but it seems like the brake pedal is a bit mushy, goes down to low. I never messed with the brake lines or anything.

Did you bleed the brakes after installing the pads? That is probably the culprit for mushy brakes.

On this same subject. I gotta get my front rotors machined and pads replaced. Going to cost $270 before taxes at the dealer. Can anybody here living in the Toronto area tell me a garage where I can get it done for cheaper?

when you first pumped the pedal after the intstall (to push the pistons out) did you push it all the way to the ground several times, or did you give it short pumps half way down until it got stiff? hows the level of the master cyl?

Fred3113, your new rotors and new pads are at maximum thickness, the brake pedal should not go lower than before. Either you need to bleed the brake system or the master cylinder is bad.

I know you haven't opened the brake lines during the installation, but moisture will still develop inside the system after a couple of years. So if you haven't ever flush the brake system for your car, it's about time to do so. Give it a try and see if the pedal goes back up.

I would say give it about a week and see if it gets better. Honestly, when I first installed my rotors and pads, i was totally pissed off with the brake pedal feel. I had to put much more pressure to stop the car. Once the pads bedded in, and the brakes were totally broken in, the pedal magically lifted, and now it's as solid, if not more solid than when I had my stock crap on there.

i will give it a week for the pads to break in properly and i did open the cover of the brake fluid reservour so i can push the cylinders back easily into the caliper. But i will wait a week and if it does not improve then i will have to bleed my brakes.

good call bro!!! I was the same way as you when i first drove the car with new brakes. I was way to skeptical of the pedal, and even after licensed mechanics told me to drive the car and break in the new brakes, I didn't believe them.

But here I am...I broke in my brakes and couldn't be happier with the performance. I do have to say that the only drawback to having cross-drilled/slotted rotors is they are louder than stock. When you are braking from very low speeds (20-50km/h) or 10-25 MPH you get somewhat of a grinding noise. And I know that it's not warped because at over 150 km/h the wheel doesn't shake one bit.

So I'm fairly happy with the brakes, besides the noise, the pads bite into the rotor soooo damn well. The car now stops on a dime.
