Boom

Guy ran the yield sign you see, I had no traffic control signs and hit him in the side of the nose. Both airbags blew. I was holding the horn and brakes upon impact, airbag blew and burnt my arm slightly. Nothing serious, just on the surface. Guy had no insurance, my uninsured motorist policy totalled it. Everything said and done, I came away with $14,400 from my insurance and a wrecked car. I'm going to fix the car and buy an '07 Scion tC for a second commuter car. Hope the damage is not too bad. Haven't had it looked at closely, but you can see engine oil in the picture above.

I know its been a long time since I posted, sorry the news has to be bad.

Better engine oil on the road than Nate blood.

Is insurance required where you are? Texas requires at least some for other motorists...

That car was so beautiful. Stupid uninsured motorists....Well that's good you came out with only a burn. Could've been worst. Hope everything goes well.

Thanks, and yeah it's good no one was hurt. Really sucks though.

Car had 81k miles. I had to fight with the insurance to get that much. The initial report they gave me used cars with 100,000+ miles as "comparable" vehicles to find the base price of $12,697. Then they said the typical mileage for a car that age is 70k miles, so they deducted $580 for that! Basically they tried to screw me on both ends. It was so blatant I made a huge deal and the next offer was much better. I also presented receipts for all my mods.

Insurance is required. He presented insurance at the scene, but when I called them later they said he didn't pay his bill and so his insurance isn't valid. My insurance company will chase him, I'm sure it will be bad for him.

Ouch. Glad to see you are okay. Last accident I had cost about 9k, give or take a grand, and that was without any engine damage with most if it located in the rear driver wheel and the driverside headlight area.

Thanks! The LED project was a lot of fun.

The cup holder is actually part of the center console. I don't actually have the buttons hooked up since I uninstalled the visor screens and PS2. My wife really hates that there is no cupholder! :p We use the backseat ones. Don't put a super sized drink back there... had a terrible incident that involved removing the back seats to clean underneath. Anyway, I would sell the cup holder and center console for trade with someone else's center console, but then I would lose the wood grain trim I have on mine... :/

I got a quote of $7000 to fix the front end and airbags. This sound reasonable? The airbags will be replaced with used ones (unpopped of course). I got the quote from a friend's friend over the phone from me describing the damage. Towing the car to him today.

Pick up my new Scion tC today or tomorrow! Great part is it's a stick. Been driving the TL for 6 years, I really miss shifting. I waited as long as possible, till the '01 TL came out. I couldn't wait another year to get a stick ('02 was the first year TL was made in a stick).

7k sounds reasonable. Dont know what damage is done under the hood though.

You could put a stick in the car. (04 was the first year) I did to my 00.

That sounds about right. I had about 6K in front end work done alone after rear ending a 2004 E320 at maybe 25 mph (took a nose dive). Pretty much everything you are going to have replaced I probably did too, less the airbags. My driver side door actually needed to be fixed as well because the fender pushed back far enough over it, in order for me to get out, i needed to force the fender into the door, which caused some unsightly damage as you can imagine.

good luck!

02 TL Stick? EDIT: what ^he said

Oops, sorry! You guys are right of course. '04 was the first year.

Both my fenders has the same problem. The passenger hits the fender upon opening but doesn't damage the door. The driver's door is a little worse, it has slight damage. I may not fix the driver's door and just live with the tiny dent there.

Not sure yet, but everyone who has seen the car says it is not likely to have engine damage. I bought AAA for $54 plus a $30 pre-existing condition charge. I was going to have them tow it to the place that quoted me $7k over the phone. The tow truck driver mentioned a place that was on the way and closer (which saves me $40 because the other place was outside the 5 mile AAA radius). I ended up dropping the car off there and they are going to email me a detailed quote. They said it would be around $7k using used airbags. They said a brand new set of airbags would be $3k!?

The good part is that now I have AAA and can tow the car 3 more times for free (within 5 miles). If I don't like their quote I'll just go elsewhere! The best part is the car is off the street. The police had marked the tires in chalk again.
