Question Bondo'ing my body kit...

hey guys,
i'm having a bit of a dilemma and hoping to get some input. i need to repaint my front and back bumpers. the front one b/c the shop didn't put flex in the paint and now it's starting to crack. the back b/c i accidentally bumped into a car and some of the paint peeled off.

i have the wings west body kit. since i'm going to repaint anyways, i'm debating whether or not to mould my kit using bondo. this would make it look like one piece instead of seeing that it is a lip kit.

some people tell me that the bondo will crack and therefore the paint will crack and i will have to keep repainting and repainting. this would be due to the fact that the polyurethane kit flexes during normal everyday driving while bondo does not. this would cause it to separate causing cracks in the bondo that would spread.

i really really want the clean "one-piece" look instead of seeing an obvious lip kit. it just looks so much better! but i don't want it to crack and have to repaint it.

anyone done this before or have any opinions?

thanks,
peter.

Like this?

I don't think it's a simple matter of bodoing the pieces together. There is a lot of fiberglass, polyurethane, and sanding involved to do the job properly.

bondo will probably crack in the long run...you need a seam sealing glue that is probably made of the same material (ie, urethane) as the body pieces.

bondo cracks over time. use a flexible silicon sealant that is paintable

thanks for the replies guys! i'm definitely not going to bondo my kit. i guess i'll ask around for a polyurethane based resin. do you know if most shops would work with this kinda stuff?

if you have an automotive paint store near buy there are two part epoxys for the kind of stuff you are trying to do. there are different types/kinds of plastic welds, many are 2 part and similar in nature to bondo (sandable) but flexable. i would start there.

sorry but i wouldnt use that. thats just for dressing up and protecting welded seams. i would look for a 2 part epoxy that can bond those 2 types of materials together. i know there are epoxys to do that i just cant remember what there called. i have bought them before at the local automotive paint store (nothing like a pep boys, autozone, ect...)
