Body kit instal - some questions

1. From the instructions, it seems the rear is the easiest, followed by sides, followed by front. Any comments?

2. How long did each take for you?

3. Did you raise the car to install or can you do it with the car on the ground?

4. I'm thinking of doing the rear and sides on my own and having someone do the front (requires bumper removal and other crap) - no brainer?

i got the WW, i raised the car when i did it only because the car was already slammed, just made it easier on myself, now with the WW you do not have to remove the front bumper, what kind of kit do you have?

it depends on how long you take to step back and say "dayam that looks good, why didn't I do this before?"

just do it one afternoon on the weekend. the front bumper removal isn't that hard. it's quality bonding time with the one you love.

I'd say the sides are the most difficult to remove.. the front and back are a sinch..

here's a tip for the sides, take out the bolts/screws for the sides, get a 2x4 about 5 feet long. Put the 2x4 between the wheel and the body kit and pry the side piece foward.. You see there is two screws holding the kit in place, then there are about 9 push-in clips that actually hold the side to the car. The side piece will slide about 2-3 inches foward (I believe it's foward ) then it'll fall off the car.

Do you have the documentation for this install? I've got the acura OEM kit installations, acutally scanned out of the manual. I'll foward it to you..

Thanks for the tips. And yes, i have the pdf's of the manuals.

P.S. Astroboy's instructions seem to imply you can do the front without removnig the bumper, is this correct?

I did the same with a 2x4, but instead of putting it between the tire and the side, I placed the end on the skirt, and gave the other endof the 2x4 2 good wacks with a hammer and they came right off.

You may also have to move the little clips for the rear lip in and out to get the lip to sit perfectly against the bumper. Another tip, when sliding the metal clips for the rear bumper into their pre cut slots, hit them with a little WD-40. Makes the clips slide in very easily.

you dont remove the bumper, however you have to remove the stock lip (unlike the rear at least on 99-01)

it doesnt take too long but it can be a tight squeeze even at stock height. the sides are tough but you can beast em out or use the 2x4 trick

Trust me, TAKE OFF THE BUMPER!! I've got little patients when dealing with tight places when I don't have to.. I spent about ten min trying to take off one "push-in" clip (there is a whole lot across the front) It took three minuets to take off the bumper and then the rest of the clips were easy to remove. It's kinda hard to reach under the front lip of the car, then stick a little slot driver into this plastic plug and try to pry up the center..all without looking at it...

Much much easier to sit the bumper on the grass and take the clips out while you are looking at it.........

So yes you CAN remove the lip from the bumper without taking the bumper off the car, but honestly you'll have an easier time and a better chance of saving the clips (typically one clip gets ruined/"scuffed up" from prying) if you take the bumper off to remove the lip.

you don't need to take off the bumper

i saw the guys at body shop what they did was turn the wheels one side to make room and then turn another side when doing the next one

I would never take the front bumper off to put the lip on. Way too much work. Take your time and the front lip should take you about 30 mins on the car.

I had time to install the sides and rear last weekend, will do the front this weekend.

The rear wasn't bad at all, althought on one side the self tapping screws weren't lined up with the "dimples", so I made my own hole! Some people have had problems with the rear piece bending around while they install one side. I just propped the entire rear piece up on the box it came in and while installing one side, I slid the bag under the other side to hold it up even higher so as not to flex the rear piece too much.

The original sides were a bitch to remove, and I also did the prying thing, but I used something with a foam rubber coating on the end so as not to damage the side in case I ever had to use it again.

I would definitely recommend anybody do this themselves instead of paying $100+ to have somebody else do it. I am not automotively inclined, but everything has been pretty easy so far.
