Blown HID Bulb?

Hey Guys, I live in Washington, DC and was wondering if there was an alternative to replacing my blown driver side HID bulb vs going to the dealer and paying the higher cost? It flickered b4 going completely out! Any help would be appreciated~Thanks

Contact our vendor Excelerate, or order them online somewhere. Always replace them in pairs and stay as close to the 4300K (maximum light output)

Just replace both of your HID bulbs with new after market bulbs. I suggest 6000K if u just want the brightest white colored light, and 8500K if you want a nice crystal blue color that still puts out plenty of light output, the drop in light output really is nothing to be concerned about, its not that drastic. It still shines plenty far infront of you.

KAIXEN makes an amazing product and now at a great price. As was mentioned, you should always replace them in pairs. HID bulbs deteriorate over time and lose light output. If you buy just one bulb you will have 2 different color bulbs in there. Here is a link to KAIXEN HID replacement bulbs:

May as well look at the old bulb or swap the bulb to make sure it is the bulb problem.

Thanks for the ebay info, just bought the Philips bulbs 4300K(pair) D2R (new) for $84 bucks on Ebay shipped!! Hopefully I will get them next week. Were they difficult to install? Did you have to take off the front bumper?

You don't have to take the front bumper off to replace just the bulbs. To replace the headlight housings you do, though. I have a passenger's side headlight housing in my living room if you're interested.

Sure, here's a few pictures I just took. The reason I have it is because the previous owner of my car converted the driver's side HID bulb to a halogen (why - I have no idea). I bought this light with all of the HID components on it - ballast, ignitor, and bulb. I am taking the HID stuff off and I was planning on selling the headlamp since I don't need it because my lights are in pretty good shape. This light has a clear lens as well. I'm not sure the rules about discussing things like this outside of the 'black market' so if you're interested just shoot me a PM.

EDIT: I just took the pictures down - I saw your sig and realized you have a 2002 TL. This light is for a 99-01 unfortunately. Sorry about that.

No problem, good luck on your search. Do you have a link to the auction you bought the bulbs from?

Finally installed my new 4300K HIDs a few hours ago. It was ALOT easier than I thought. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics. Next project to sand/polish or replace headlight housings!

There is a great do it yourself here on this site/just do a search and follow directions and DON"T touch the bulbs. If you do/clean them with alcohol to remore any finger/grease if you do. It's not hard to do. Let me try to find the post.

Maybe this will help someone else.

Hey, yes we were very careful not to touch the bulbs while installing them. The bulbs in the pic above are the stock bulbs and the one on the left is the blown one.

Since I have installed my new bulbs, I am having trouble with the car taking the code to unlock the radio. I have 3 codes the Acura website gave me according to my vin# and serial #. Any ideas? Thanks

This is a very common problem. The most likely fix involves pulling the antenna connector out of the back of the radio.

See the following thread for details:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-problems-fixes-117/radio-code-doesnt-work-602128/

And there are many other threads on the same topic.

Good luck.

It's just disconnecting the battery that causes the security code problems. Some have changed their bulbs without disconnecting the battery but it is a recommended step in the service manual.
