best way to cut out foglight holes

I want to take off my bumper, cut out the fake foglight holes, and install mesh. Whats the best way to cut out the fake fog holes?

Should I cut out all the black all the way to the painted surface?

Should I use a knife? Saw? Dremel?

Also, how should I attach the mesh in the holes? Epoxy? I wonder if there some sort of fiberglass glue that I can get at Home Depot?

Thanks guys!

Use a sharp utility knife....just buy a back of blades so you can keep cutting with a sharp blade....it will cut through like butter and you have MUCH MORE control over your cut. I'd cut right to where the paint starts.

As far as securing the mesh.....believe it or not, if you leave like and inch - inch and half of mesh overhang behind the bumper, you can use hot glue and then while it's still pliable, put duct tape right over it....the chemical in the glue reacts with the adhesive on the duct tape and makes a crazy strong bond...just do it neatly, because even though no one will see it, you will know if you did it sloppy Cut nice even strips

A knife huh? Will do! Thanks Ron! BTW, you have mail!

I dunno about the hot glue - I used hot glue twice on the mesh in my Mugen grill and it never stuck worth a damn. Course there was no duct tape (not a lot of room for it though). What would be your suggestion if you had no duct tape or hot glue?

Nate,

Here's a pic of mine close up.

The shop used a dremel and cut it out from the back. It was real easy and very clean. I'm sure a nice would do just as well.

One suggestion. Paint the black opening once you remove the piece. When you put the mesh over the opening, the black opening will be more pronounced. Sand down the edge first, paint has a tough time sticking to it.

Thumbs up Looks smooth

It worked for me, Neil. I would definetly do that if I didn't have lights in there. Very sharp looking.

Here try looking at the pics link in my signature below. The fog hole is the last one on page 2.

Cool! Neil, do you have a better pic of the Mugen grill mesh and the mesh in the fog holes? Your other pics are kinda dark. You might want to paint the piece of metal directly behind your Mugen grill flat black so it doesn't shine through your mesh.

One suggestion. Paint the black opening once you remove the piece. When you put the mesh over the opening, the black opening will be more pronounced.
Not sure what black you mean? I was going to cut out all the black in the fake fog holes, all the way up to the painted surface. This is what it looks like they did on your ride, right?

I took my Mugen grill to the body shop to get painted today. I got the homie hook up! They are going to get rid of all the dings, sand down where the Mugen emblem was, and fix the spider cracks for $30!

Nate, Yeah I painted the piece behind my Mugen grill flat black already. I don't have any pics.

Be careful if you cut out too much of the fog light opening. You may not have a glueing surface in which to hold the mesh.
