Best shocks for Comptech springs?

1. I know that most people with Comptech springs have been using stock shocks. How have they performed? Do they dampen properly?

2. For those who have changed their shocks, what is the best mated shock? Big difference from stock shocks?

Thanks in advance.

Stock shocks are fine. That's what most people have. The ones who have changed out their shocks seem to go the Koni route....

i think with a moderate drop like the comptechs, changing the shocks will prevent premature wear of the stock ones in 2 years. you probably wont have problems with stock shocks now, but will have problems in future guaranteed, just how long from now is the question.
i changed my shocks to tokico illumina adjustable stiffness setting. its great to have control over the stiffness. if you are going to change your shocks, make sure its adjustable otherwise there is no point.

I have comptechs paired with Illuminas and I love the setup. With the moderate drop of comptechs, the stocks should last for a while if they are fairly new, but I decided to switch them out to a more performance oriented strut, even though I only had about 20 miles on my stocks!

accordv6, what setting do you have front and rear on the illuminas?
i currently have it on 3 in front, 4 in rear. it is way too stiff for daily driving, but ideal for track use. what do you think is a good setting for some good ride. i dont care as much about performance anymore so i was thinking to go to 1 in front and 2 in rear.
btw,i have the rear stiffer because i want more oversteer. understeer scares the crap out of me sometimes.!

Thx for the advice.

I've found an installer here in Toronto who will do the springs for $120 Cdn (about $80 USD). At that price, it's a harmless experiment to keep the stock shocks for a couple of years and then fork out another $120 down the road to install new shocks.

If it turns out that the ride with stock shocks is too bouncy (ie. improperly damped) then I'll have wasted $120 Cdn. OTOH, if I keep the car a few more years and end up trading it in after riding on stock shocks, I'll have saved close to $600 Cdn, the price of a set of Tokico Illumina's

Seems like a good risk reward to me :-)

I change them a lot, depending on what I'm doing. If I'm going on a road trip I put them at 1 all the way around, but for normal everyday driving, I usually have them set to 2 or 3 all around. 1 in front 2 in rear sounds like a nice combo, haven't tried that yet, I usually have them set the same all around. I think you just have to play with it until you find something that is comfortable, yet still has decent performance. In the summer, I'm usually 3 all around. Right now in this weather we are having, 1 all around!
