for normal driving, leave it in D5 on the right side of shifter
If you are in stop and go traffic on the freeway below 45MPH, or in town lots of stopping and speed below 45MPH- use D4,,that will keep it from hunting in and out of overdrive 5th gear
SS mode- the left side of shifter is for advanced fun- but is more likely to increase wear on the weak 2nd and 3rd gear clutch disc packs- leave it alone for now
If you can imagine a set of 5 cd's with an abrasive material glued to each one on each side- then stacked on top of each other at the end of each gearset- those have to grab against each other to engage the gear,,
slipping is when they dont grab each other anymore,,
crud in system that plugs inlet lines and selenoids is from the grabby stuff wearing off the disc.
When you do a 3x3 fluid change you are hoping to remove all such crud
Problem is, that fluid contains cleaners and may take away the last remaining friction holding the parts together
thats essentially the TL clutches that shift the `automatic trans`
a fancy old school motorcycle clutch is about what we have!
Honda sure loves to use its technology within the company~

JRhodes 88 How do I get up to 4,700 rpm?
the only Way I get that is
the LEFT SS Mode D4 then go to 7rpm then shift D5..
Thank's guys.. I hate sarcastic answers..
I just need an answer.

Cut him a break, he's just trying to learn about his car.
Whether you admit it or not, everyone was once at the point where they knew jackall about cars and as a result asked some pretty stupid questions. I know I still do it sometimes

with SS mode you control the gear selection- so you can keep your foot on the throttle full and it will run up to redline,,vtec starts at 4700rpm so expect a jump in power there!
You must shift it up to the next gear before redline or the rev limiter will begine to cut out the ignition.. and the car stutters so you know there is a problem
let off the gas or upshift and it will be ok
you can get max rpm in regular D5 mode too- just stand on the gas pedal and hold it down to the floor- it will get to just below redline then shift itself

But.. in SS mode it's
N = + - N
D5 - D5
D4 = - - D4
If I go + on the N will it shift?
Cause What I think is If I go to N+ It will be Neutral.
Hmm..
And I've never been on Gear 1<-->2

Ok:
Here is a simplified meaning of gear usage:
-D5 is full automatic - the transmission will use all gears ( through 5) the way it see's best fit - everyday driving - I use this 99% of the time - this way the transmission does what it sees to be the best for itself - good for fuel economy.
-The "tip tronic/sport shift (ss)" gate (section beside D5) - This allows you to control the transmission's shifting. When in this mode, a LED screen (witch tells you what gear you are in) will light besides the gear selection indicators near the Tachometer. The car will automatically shift from 1st to 2nd (you can still shift prematurely), then you have control of the rest.
Push forward to the "+" to up shift
Push back to the "-" to downshift
The car will downshift automatically as you slow down (you can downshift too).
There are plenty of videos how to shift a car if you search.
This is similar to a manual in the respect you can control the cars up shifts.
-D4 is automatic - the transmission will use gears up to 4th.
-D3 is automatic - the transmission will use gears up to 3rd.
-2 - The transmission will only stay in second.
-1 - the transmission will only stay in first

some years have control in SS of 1-2 shift, others it does it on its own
If you try to downshift at too high an rpm or speed for the selected gear in SS
it wont allow it- computer protects the car from you

I had actually written all that but deleted in the sake of simplicity.

There's a way of disabling the auto downshift.
It's a little known fact, you need to disconnect some sensor/cable - I forget.
There's also some aftermarket computer that stops it from happening.
Audi owners do it all the time (with a switch to enable it in drive).
This is kinda sketchy to do in a 2G TL!
OP, Tiptronic is just a name for SS/Sport Shift.
It is trademarked by Porsche, thus Audi, VW ect. use the name as well. Its has sort of caught on as the "slang" term for SS. If you say to most people "my car is tiptronic" they know what you mean.
