I use the available 94 and 93 Octane here in Laurel, Maryland. I prefer the 94 from a place called Auto Mart, (off of Ft. Meade road/MD-198, near Tischer Acura...for you local guys.) Their gas is always the cheapest around town...$1.50-$1.62 per gallon

P.S. - F.Y.I. - Premium gas in Hawaii ranged from $2.06 to $2.19 per gallon. The cheapest was @ Schoffield Barracks. Who ever said the Army didn't take care of its' Soldiers...?

My friend who owns a gas station told me theres is no difference where you buy your gas from because it comes from the same place. Most likely the mobil and gulf get the same gas from the same vender. The only thing that is different is the octane. The quality of gas remains the same even if its different name. Unless you go with 94 octane from sonoco. Basically it comes down to where you get gas usually or which is closer to your house.

Doesn't everyone in here realize that even if you use Sunoco or Ammoco it doesn't mean your getting that companys gas. If it is a private non-franchised owner then they are essentially just using the company name. They can then go and buy the cheapest crap ass gas they want. My local Mobil is like this. Find out if your station is owned directly by the company or is private.

Shell

Wow! A 3 year old post. Funny how some questios never go away. Back in '95 when I was with Mercedes, they did a comparison of all gas (available at that time) and decided that the perfect gas was Shell's mid grade. Not their premium, their mid-grade. I've prefered Shell every since that report.

That is not correct. If they are a franchised owner they have to buy that company's gasoline. If they go out and buy some other brand and the company finds out they will debrand the station.

I work for one of the major oil companies.

I saw one of those local news report on the reason for discrepencies in gas prices in the same market. The report found out that though most major companies do require the franchise owner to purchase their gas, some of them do not require that they purchase 100% of their gas from the company. I think the example they had was Mobile, where one franchise owner buys something like 50-60% of the gas from Mobile, and the remaining from discount vendors. If this report is accurate, then you're both right. I still buy from Mobile regardless...still getting 29 mpg on the hwy. Not sure what I'll get now with a new transmission.

I am so unhappy we can't get cool 93 and 94 octane fuel in California. $2.29 for 91 at the local Chevron today. Bet it costs more by Monday.

i put 89 octane gas just to try out.... one thing is for sure, i'm never doing that again, i got half a tank and about 100miles on the trip odo. normal would be like 130-150miles. as far as performance i didnt feel any sudden loss in power infact at higher rpms i feel a slight boost right when i'm entering my redline.. on my 2000tl. i could be crazy who knows.

I am able to buy BP gas about 10-20 cents cheaper per gallon from pumps here at work (no, I don't work at a gas station) so I do and save a little. When I need to get gas elsewhere, I pretty much hit them all, however, I did try that new Shell gas a while ago that was claiming to increase your mileage and I think it actually did but they don't advertise it anymore. I looked on the website just now and didn't see anything about it so maybe they dropped it. My car seems to do fine on all the fuels out there, have not had a problem.

Well, the Acura manufacturer recommends Octane level of 91 and up. Most times, I use Sunoco because they have Octane 94 and others like Esso, Petro Canada, Shell have 91 Octane - the highest.

Question

I am also in Toronto/Aurora. I have the opportunity (by Mon. Mar. 8/04) to buy our president's off-lease 2000 3.2 TL and I have a few questions. It is pretty loaded and clean and has 125,000 km and the current ask is $17K. Too much? Will I be able to run anything but premium gas? A Midas manager and his tech (Finch & Vic Pk) told me regular will be no problem. Also, when is the timing belt due and any idea of the cost for that? Thanks for your time.
