bent rims.....fix or replace?

I have now changed 2 rims in the last year on my 02 TL Type S and now i have two more bent on the passenger side. It is getting expensive. Is it worth it to have the rims fixed for say approx $100 each or should i just buy new ones again. Can i expect them to be almost as good as new if i get them fixed?

That could be the option too, how much to change it? I rather replace than fix myself, I never feel comfortable with a fixed rim.

forgot to add: plus the cost of a new tire about $115 because it is unevenly worn....see how quickly it adds up.

ok i just had the same problem. I bent 2 of my rims very badly ( i got a flat in on of them because it was bent so bad it couldnt hold air) I had them fix it to see what they could do. I paid $60 for the one with the flat and $50 for the one that was not too too bad. The bad once came out like shit. My whole car vibrated and even my doors vibrated against the body of the car while i was driving so i got a new one for the front. Now i have one new rim and the fixed one that was not that bad. I still kinda feel it at certain speeds like 55mph or 62 then its ok the rest of the time. I can live with it but to get it to this point i spent about 2 hours playing around with the tire pressure to minimize the vibration. The trick is to leave the bent rim at ~34psi and put it in the back wheels not the front. Bring the front tires up to 35/36psi and the other back one leave it at 32. This was the best combo and minimized the vibration to the point where my passangers could not feel it but i couldt in the steering wheel at the speed i said before. Total spendings- 60fix+50fix+240new rim=$350

I just got 1 rim re-rounded. and 1 had the face re-machined. I got each done for $100. So for $200 I got two rims back to "brand new" instead of dropping about $250 for one new rim from a junkyard or dealership

I vote repair

How are you guys bending these rims? Is it a pothole thing? Are you hitting curbs?

I bent the inside bead of one rim hitting a gigantic pothole last week. and I scraped the face of another one really bad on a granite curb last year.

potholes in NYC suck....i have bent all 4 four rims and blew out 3 tires.....not even if i tried could this have happened in the last few years. Bad luck i guess

I just dont feel 100% safe in repair.....maybe because buying it new you know for sure the problem is fixed. I tell you one thing, my rim and tire guy is sure happy though

what part of the city are you guys driving in? i live in brooklyn and have 18" inch x 8.5 rims with 3 inch lip, and no problems, and if i do break it, then i can reorder them for under 150 a wheel, sometimes aftermarket saves you money then factory outrageous prices. i've hit bad potholes but rims are really holding up great, i brought all 4 rims and tires new, mounted and all for 1100.

I was in Brooklyn yesterday....gotta say that BQE still is a piece of sh*t!! I live in Queens and the past 3 winters have been bad enough to cause some nasty potholes. This year has been good since its been warm so far.
