Belts spuealing, need help to fix myself

Hi guys my belts squeak all the time now, sometimes not much and sometimes a lot. it is getting very annoying and I know there has to be a way to fix the problem. my belts are about 1.5yrs old and I have the UR crank and alternator pulleys witht he recommended gates belts. I do not know where the tensioner is or how to adjust it, to see if that fixes the problem. also is there anything else I should check/adjust to make the squealing stop? can someone please post a picture of the tensioner and just give me an little DYI to adjust the tensioner and I'll see if that fixes the problem first.

thanks guy!

Shaun

come on guys, someone has got to have a picture they can post or at least describe where the tensioner is and what it looks like, then explain who to adjust it. if I need to change my belts a quick DYI would help also.

First you need to find out which belt is squeling. On the older honders the alternator belt is adjusted from the alternator itself.
the power steering belt tension is adjusted on the power steering pump.
The A/C tension has a tensioner. A little pulley slightly above the compressor.
Hope this helps.

try some belt grease. or spray or what ever it is. i here it does a good job at making the squealing go away.

id try replacing the belts. you cant adjust the tensioner on the alt. Its got a self adjusting (spring loaded) tensioner.

Last time I sparyed some type of lubricant on a belt, it caught fire and snapped on me when the pulley locked up, but thats a rare occurance. Changing the belts is probably your best bet, as stated above.

fsttyms1 can you post a picture from your helms manual showing how to change the belts. I figure I might as well change the serpentine and alt./ac belts at the same time and that should fix the problem. also I have the UR crank and alt. pulleys, could some post the part# for the belts I would need, thanks guys. I really want to do this tomororw since I have the day off because of the holiday.

Im out of town for the weekend and i cant. Its not hard. Look for the tensioner sorta below the alt. You stick a 13 or 14 mm wrench on it and lift up to release the tension and slide the belt off. the PS belt you will have to loosen the 1 12 mm bolt you see from the top, and loosen the 12 mm under it (hard to see to loosen the alt tension to get the belt off. You will also have to remove the 2 bolts on the side motor mount to get the ps belt off. (dont worry, you wont have to support the engine or any thing) Just go take a look at it and you will see the stuff. its not a hard thing

I believe the squealing is isolated to the alt/acces. belt. so I felt underneath the alternator and feel a bolt there and it almost feels like connected to the bolt is a lever made out of hard rubber is that what I lift up? after I do that I suppose the tension will be released and I can just wiggle the belt off. the alt. belt goes to the crank pulley and another pulley also, is there anything else I need to do to get the alternator belt off and is it hard to get the belt off the pulleys? any tricks or techniques a first timer should know? BTW that belt appears to be glazed, it is shiny, that is a sign of a bad belt , right?

Glazed can mean slipping. Cracked means the belt is old.

I dont think so. There isnt enuf room between the tensioner and the frame rail. I had to use a boxwrench and a pipe
