As I was going home yesterday night, I was driving pretty slow on a road called "Arlington Hts." and there are mad cops on this road. Anyways, I made a left onto "Rand Rd." and started to speed up since there are no cops on this road and get stuck at the first light. All of a sudden, I look over and see Red Maxima (Probably a '98 or '99). He revs his engine, and I just laugh and decide to have a little fun. I rev my engine back at him and when the light turned green, shifted into SS. He beat me off the line and was about a 1/2 a car length in front of me until I hit about mid-way in 3rd gear and started to pull in front of him when I hit 4th gear and ended up going up till' about 75 mph until you could say I beat him. The only mods that were visible on his car was an exhaust, might had a intake. Pretty surprised how fast maximas are.

Just thought I would share this story with you. hehehe.

Something is not right here. How come you're in 4th gear when you hit 70? Redline at 3rd gear will take you to 100 mph. At least the case for my TLS. I never go into 4th gear when someone want to race me at a stop light.

 

I have a '99 TL.

 

I have a 99 TL also and my 3rd gear goes up to ~122 mph. Is there something wrong with this story?

4th gear = 75 mph

 

good kill..but maybe it wasnt a real race, just a lil showdown haha, he prolly didnt go full throtle...

 

We know binh TL has magical powers, but 99's 3rd gear does go over 110mph.

 

I agree maybe he didnt full throttle it, because a 98 or 99 Maxima auto stock is a quick as a 99TL and definately quicker off the line, I was taken by several of them when I had my 99TL.

 

Guess he didn't full throttle it. I didn't full throttle it until I saw that it was staying in front of me. LOL...oh well

 

sounds interesting....I don't switch to 4th unless I'm letting off throttle or just cruising....'cause I can stay in 2nd and 3rd so long

wowowowo you guys redline at 110???? my 3rd redline at liek 85 i believe, im gonan check it out tommorow thought to make sure but i knwo for a fact i dont redline 3rd at 110. i have a 2000 TL-P

 

In 3rd gear I think I redline at 80????
