Question BEAT: '95 BMW 328 M3 vs. '00 TL

Raced a manual '95-ish BMW 328 M3 from the light (it was a manual) and he beat me by 1.5 car lengths. Only mod I have is K&N. Basically, he got me off the line and I held the 1.5 car lengths for the remainder...

So, looks like I need some juice: how much would comptec headers push me ahead? :tflamer:

Great run doc! Just for clarification, was it a regular 3 series (328i) or an M series (M3)? If he got the jump and you maintained the same distance throughout, just an intake would probably make you faster. I would go with headers just to be 100% sure. That way, even if you get left in the dust during takeoff, you can still catch up and pass him

It was a 328 M3 Series... he was lowered, etc. So, I'd have to say he had some mods...

is it possible to have 328i badge and M3 badge at the same time? (Assuming the owner did not remove or add badges?)

no but it is possible to orede the "M" package on a regular BMW. Some "silver spoon kid" I know did that to the third car his dad bought for him, first a neon at 16, then a v6 cougar at 19, and the 3 seriese beemer with an M package when he was 23. Rich bastards!! lol , don't worrk if someone wanted to give me a car every three years I would obviously would take it. I'm just a little bittter!! HA

So it could have been a "m" package on a 3 seriese BMW.

Whoever owned the BMW just bought the "M" badge and applied it to the car infront of the 328. No such thing as a M328!

Just to confirm what everyone else is saying, there is no such thing as a 328 M3.

Sorry folks---It ONLY had the M3 symbol on it. I'm not familar with the different series, but it looked similar to the 328 series...

So, just to clear up any overwhelming confusion: it was an M3 :banghead:

Just to really clear it up, the 328 was not introduced untill 1996, in 1995 they were still using the 2.5 engine. So if it was a 325 that beat him, it gets even worse.

ahhh-pictures!

YES, it was an M3! So, they've got 240hp off the assembly line + any mods. Hmmm, I'm equipped with 225, so I need some mods!

95 M3 - 240 HP 3715 curb weight - 0-60 6.1 secs

00 TL - 225 HP 3483 curb weight - 0-60 7.7 secs

02 TL-S 260 HP 3538 curb weight - 0-60 6.6 seconds

Even if you had a TL-S he would still beat you at red light racing..you will need a 2004 TL 6 speed - and then it will be close.

That's why you need mods! My modified TL-S does 0-60 in 6 flat!

BTW - are you sure a '95 M3 weighs 3715 lbs?!?

Just out of curiosity, why did you use the fastest published time for the M3 and among the slowest published times for the TL / TLS?

Unfortunately, I've seen a lot of people getting abused on the forums lately. Why are people picking on new members?

Ahhh, I take it with a grain of salt! Why? Clearly those abusers lack integrity to contribute something constructive which corresponds with their intellectual ability, comprehension skills and inability to participate in group forums...

6.1 seconds is hardly the fastest published time for a 1995 M3. Indeed, it is the # from the factory.

There was no 1995 328 in the US, touring or otherwise, which is not a package but BMW-speak for wagon (and no E36 3 series tourings at all).
