Beat “The Bandit” Today
I was sitting at a stoplight and a guy in a black/gold Trans-Am pulls up next to me. I saw the 6.6 written on the scoop, and thought no-way could I take a 6.6L V8. When the light changed the guy burned some rubber, so I took off at full throttle. I was able to jump a half car on him, because he was still spinning and my Toyo’s hooked up perfectly. I pulled on him by 1 car before 60.
This car looked like it came straight out of Smokey and the Bandit. How fast are those things supposed to be?

Not suprised you beat him, depending on the year of the T/A due to emissions and all that garbage certian model years of the 6.6 only had ~225 HP and were not very quick. They would spin the tires all day long though.
Here are some quick stats I found,
77-79 T/A
"The 400 was standard and the 403 olds came into play. The W72 400 CID had 200 HP at 3600 RPM with 325-lb./ft torque at 2200 RPM. The L-78 had 180 HP at 3600 RPM, with325-lb/ft torque at 1600 RPM."

If the scoop says "6.6 Litre", that's the Olds 403 motor under the hood. If it says T/A 6.6, that's the Pontiac 400 under the hood. I'm not surprised you walked away- the Olds-engined cars typically had 2.39 rear gears. My old Z('80), in stock configuration (190hp 350, about 16.7 1/4 time), got spanked by a Mazda MX-6. Today, however, many are surprised by the "revitalized" engine (350hp, 400ft.lbs) and trans (T56 6-speed manual) setup.
