Yea, you can definitely find cheaper ballast. I recommend replacing them both at the same time so you don't have to deal with replacing the other one down the road. There are several websites out there. theretrofitsource.com, hidconcept.com, and hidextra.com. I bought my 35W Morimotos from theretrofitsource.com and I am very impressed. I've had them for a month+ with no problems. I paid $110 for both ballast and the quality is superb.

please clarify what bulbs you bought and installed?
we require special D2R HID bulbs,,not some 10 buck special you can buy at the parts store
if `normal` bulbs went in and were hit with the super high voltage of the HID starting system--they wont last a second

do you have any moisture issues inside the headlight lens, that can lead to ballast failure

the DIY kits MAY require you cut 2 wires and install 2 connectors,,
the more expensive ones should come with the correct plug and play connector.

They also have waterproof ballast and double stick tape easily mounts anywhere

ck the places listed above- I went to hidextra for a 5000k color full kit, (stock color is 4300) 2 new ballast -bulbs- and ignitor/connector to bulb wire,,
for ~well under~ 75$
price varies with sales and coupons you find online

there are several of us having this exact problem now-

either water has destroyed inside the ballast or general age and road vibrations are taking their toll
gen2 cars are at an age and headlight use time for new bulbs- may as well do everything and its done..with the low prices of aftermarket it makes sense

thankfully several sponsors that make this site happen-- are hid sellers and experts!
look at each one- not hard to figure out only a few makers of the stuff and several sellers marking things up
bulb quality being the main differance I can find

ck the main page list, and the special section--Problems- for more info and diy tips

the master diy list is here https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-1999-2003-98/new-official-2nd-gen-tl-diy-thread-706083/
save it to your browser favorites- its a lifesaver!
Welcome to acurazine

I've had the hidextra slim ballast kit on my MDX for almost two months now with no problems. For $60 if the bulbs and ballasts last more than a couple of years I'll be pleased.

Hondakid23, I responded to your message you sent me, so check it out. If you are not sure give retrofitsource a call and they can definitely help you...As Flipster23 stated stay away from 12K, you literally can't see anything down the road and it strains the eyes more at night. I had 8k and hated it then I went to 6K which was okay, I finally dropped to 5K and love it!

I'd say go for it before you end up with no lights at all, especially at night. That is not a good feeling when both your lights stop working at the same time on a pitch black road. The quality of the morimotos is nice and you won't be disappointed.
