Bad tranny and req maintanence light

I have had my req maintanence light on for about 4 days and my tranny seems to be shifting rather abruptly. The tranny shift problem is miniscule (could be psychosomatic) but i can feel it when im driving. The question i have is, Did the people whose trannys blew, get the req maintanence light before it bit the dust? Im asking becasue im going in for my next oil change this weekend and i wanted to know if I should mention the hard shifting?
Thank you

Sometimes when the tranny craps on you, all the lights lid up on the dashboard. However, when my tranny died, nothing was lid up. Just tell the mechanic to test drive your car and confirm if it is a bad tranny.

My tranny was slipping badly from 2nd to 3rd and there were no lights.....It was obvious that my tranny was bad. 2 days later (the day of my service appointment) the D5 light started blinking and the dash lit up......sign that it could not get any worse. Basically, when it died, I was stuck in a higher gear. I limped my way to the dealership........

When my started acting up bad, I was determined to completely shaft the stupid thing. I was racing soem Mustang and when it crapped out entirely, the transmission (okay, honestly I can't remember if the car has a tranny light so maybe it was the engine light but definitely not the service light) came on and stayed on for the rest of the day and the next morning when I took it to the dealer...
