Angry bad rev

what's unhealthy driving for the engine. high revs? can i keep the car in a low gear? does it just use up more gas? does it take up a lot more gas? what's healthy driving?

High revs will wear your engine out faster, no doubt, but probably not as bad as you imagine. The easiset way to think of this is that the engine only has so many revolutions before it needs an overhaul. For sake of argument let's say it's a trillion.

If you drive really fast, you'll rev it more quickly, but you'll also get to your destination faster and you'll shut the car off sooner. OK, full-throttle runs to redline also produce more torque (torque = the 'twisting' force; think of how you can twist really hard with a long wrench, that's torque), and this torque can stress driveline components.

Keep fresh oil in your car and keep it well-maintained, don't rev the crap out of it when it's cold, and it'll last you ten years easy even if you drive it hard. The engine, at least...

If ya like to drive the freeway in 3rd or 4th gear a lot, you'll do little more than use more gas. If you like to floor the accelerator in the morning when you first start the car up, look for a ring job in your future.

Around town, I stay a gear lower than the auto would choose. I believe this is easier on the car than all the shifting and braking. Healthy driving is driving smoothly. The most unhealthy driving I observe is tailgating. If you're stuck in stop and go driving, the best thing is to hang back. Unfortunately, other drivers view this as an opportunity to jump in front of you.

i rarely rev high...i always feel bad after doing so.
i sometimes push the gas harder than normal, shift a bit before 3k, and sometimes in 3rd i'll let it go a bit over 3k.

rev to 4k rarely, havnt been up to 6 in a while....i only do it if i have to

Yeah, if you have more than three-car worth of space infront of ya, I'd cut in too.
