Backseat trunk access
Hmmm...I know that through the backseat when you put the middle seat down you can open it up to have access to the trunk through the back seat. I was wondering if anyone here has done anything creative with this access like putting an ice chest/refrigerator in the back so you get cold drinks from trunk or SOMETHING. What are your ideas or has anyone else done something with this otherwise I find that type of access useless =/

getting 2x4s from the homer store, and carrying snow skis inside-
thats what it seems to be designed for in my opinion
I like the frig idea... but you must have really long arms~

to keep drinks cold for now-
make use of the ac ducting and the cd storage space in center console
a plastic duct runs right under the console- no insulation on it- so whatever temp is coming from the vents also goes there
Leave it OPEN in normal use- you want the air to blow thru the tube (prevent moisture buildup and mold) and to rear seats then thru exhaust vents in rear deck area
to keep a canned drink chilled- turn ac on and `Mostly CLOSE` the rear vent.
just make sure to open it again later
The extra cold air being contained in the duct does a great job of temp transfer thru the plastic to the cup holder assembly-
you can store a few cans in the bin as well!
cold air from ac/fan keeps pumping at it- thats why I suggest slightly open the vent to prevent overpressure in vent tube
Some cars even have a weak seal at a junction in that tube- extra air bleed!!
keeps coffee warm in the winter when heat is on too~
Also a good idea to keep the rear vent fully open if you carry cd's in there- dont want to bake or freeze them, and the cd player detest condensation on the disc~

haha, yeah i saw a kit on summit racing. it has like a 20' 0 gauge positive cable and all the mounting hardware. i'm just keeping it as close to the back seat as possible because we don't have lock cylinders for our trunks and if the battery were to die, it wouldn't be pretty.

then the rear seat pass through is also lockable, so they can't get to the emergency release cable
OR do mean like a lock cylinder on the outside itself

i think assclown meant on the outside of the trunk. if the battery were to die, you would have to reach through the armrest passthrough at an awkward angle to get to the release cable, and that wouldnt be pretty.
just curious, assclown why are you relocating the battery? what do you have in store for us?
there was someone on the 3G side that relocated the battery to the trunk to fit his turbo kit. im sure you saw the thread. maybe thats what hes doing....

Wouldn't it be more prudent to do a 6spd swap before installing a turbo?
I mean a turbo would be great but that would be a lot of extra to put on our already POS trannys.
Maybe turning it into a track car and want better weight distro? but then you'd probably be gutting it anyways right?
Just rambling thought here...

yeah I just saw that on Aznways thread. That's excellent.
Ideally that would be what I want to do, but I don't know if the cost/use ratio is really worth it. I couldn't do anything until I pay a chunk of my BMW off anyways but I've had 5spds since I started driving and now having 2 autos is really weird.
and I think the biggest concern I have is that I'm not super mechanically inclined, I can do basic things and I used to install turbos and all that jazz when I had a civic in HS..but tearing up the dash and messing with the interior doesnt seem like my cup of tea... :-( and it would cost way to much money to have someone do it for me... I'm F*cked lol

Has anyone else done anything to their rear backseat access? Or how can you set up a refrigerator there (for your passengers), etc. like Volvo does

Yeah I am, I currently work (all through college actually) at a firm that lobbies for patients and physicians rights.
Now that i've graduated (a two semesters early, summer classes you know?) I got offered to work full time come september. But I need to become a registered lobbyist now for new york state and much of that involves knowing the laws of NYs (why I'm studying the Bar) and knowing political process (how a bill becomes a law lol watch school house rock).
And the TL was free for me (hand me down) and my dad put the down payment on the X5 (it's an '08) and loaned me the first 3 payments so that I could get it and then pay him back while I pay the rest of the 60 months
hope that helps!

P.S. I'm 21 in a month, but let me tell you I did it for the money savings but I would've never graduated early otherwise because damn real life sucks a lot lol. I I went to school locally (Siena College) and I have an apartment with my roommates so it's not like I actually left. when they go to class, I go to work. and at night, same old bullshit haha
