you better have money to buy the exhaust cause comptech full cat is running 1352.00
if i were you just be patient and wait and buy a used set of comptech axle back from the black market. That's what most of the pplz on this forum does anyway

there is a few more HP to be had by the cat back comptech as opposed to the axel backs 1-2 hp gain. also check into the quiet tip inserts. they make a big difference in sound (like if you are going ona trip and want it quieter)

it depends what model TL you have. If you have a TL-P you will benefit more from having a Cat back setup. If you have a TL-S, you will not gain much from going cat back. The cost vs power is not worth it, unless you are supercharged. Also why spend so much on comptechs, when you can have a full custom cat back for the same price.

IFSKI,

You located in Cali? Well bigman is right about the price, but if you are in Cali spend the extra money on the Comptechs, especially with the STUPID new changes being implemented by the California Air Resource Board. Meaning stricter restrictions to the changing of exhausts, adding aftermarket intakes, etc. Sorry had to vent. I have an 02 TL-P with axlebacks. 3 different Acura parts dealers recommended just the axle backs due to the cost vs pwr equation. If money is not an issue get the "whole" package.

Axle back exhaust is from the y pipe back. The cat back is from the catalytic converter back.

^^ And i'm sure there are places very near you that can do a custom catback for less than $500...this is worthless unless you like the sound this much in which case a catback is just wasting money since it can be taken care off by removing the resonator or putting 2x $30 2.5inch tips.

quality of sound is a different story. not too different in sound though...just $400 more.

OR if you want it really loud, do what i did when i installed my headers, run it straight outa the down pipe and leave everyone in the neiborhood deaf! in which case you save $800.

Thanks for all the helpfull feed back, to answer your q.'s, I have a 2002 type-s and yes I am from Cali. up north, but the regulations don't really matter to me.

Anyone know were I can buy an affordable comptech axel cat exhaust ?

well since you have a type s, a cat back wont net you much. You can do obx headers and 2 magnaflow mufflers intalled for 500. You will gain 20+ horses from that.

you can buy a magnaflow y pipe for about 50 bucs and have an exhaust shop put one together for less than 250. You will notice the difference in flow right away. And up high in the rpm will be a different experience.

since you have comptech mufflers, i believe they are 2.25 inlet, so go with 2.25 inch piping from the cat to the y and get a 2.25 inlet/outlet y pipe. Any more questions, you can hit me up with a pm.

WHERE did you get the y pipe for this price??

BTW* if you can, this is a 30-45min swap, and there's no real need to even lift the car. 3bolts gets the y-pipe off with the mufflers. swap mufflers. bolt back on. (mufflers held by rubber, if you ever played w/ LEGOyou'll figure it out. 1/10 difficulty.)

i have the same setup as bigman, and from the sound clip i heard, magnaflows sounds better than comptech, but it's a matter of personal preference i guess..

i get a lot of compliments about the sound of my car so i guess im not the only one who thinks it sounds nice!

here are 2 pics of my setup:

Magnaflow also(not listed on the site ) 2.25 single in to 2.5 dual out.
Hopes this helps and the piping was done by an exhaust shop.

i guess it's the 'the piping was done by an exhaust shop' part that i am concerned.

which kind of leads up to getting the mufflers to line up nicely.

no rattles.

plus it looks like the magnaflow y-pipe is shaped different.

so the piping..

1. between the outlet cat and inlet resonator.
2. and between the outlet resonator and inlet Y-pipe.
3. then outlet Y-pipe and inlet mufflers.

is all custom...right?.

wow, let me get this straight...you paid 300 for the tips or tips w/ ypipe? PLEASE TELL ME WHERE?

200 for installation is a ripoff...this takes any regular person 1hr with the car lifted on 1side, on the ground and doing it for the first time...for a shop it takes them like 30minutes since they have those hyd lifts and people who do exhasts all day long.

btw* this is my 900th post.

aight im at home now and lookin at the bills

installation was 185$ (paid no taxes). they had to take off the stock exhaust, mandrel bend the piping, weld everything, make custom brackets, align the mufflers, etc.

parts were 350$ (paid no taxes)

btw congrats for your 900 posts, next step is 1000!

they are real scumbags with cursing problems. But they are the cheapest and closest dealers for Magnaflow. Also it would be wise to hurry and get the mufflers. Magnaflow is revamping their line up.

i never got the part number for the y pipe or the resonator. The size of the resonator is up to the sound you want, the smaller it is the loder but raspier you car will be, the longer it is the deeper your car will sound. I went with an 18 ince one. And no, the shop did not bend the Y.
