Some really nasty smelling soup spilled on the back floor of my car and now the floor mat on the back driver's side smells like soup. I used carpet clean on the mat, and then I used some carpet powder and vacuumed it up, but now it just smells like Carpet Fresh and soup which is even worse!

Can I salvage my floor mat and restore my car's original smell?

bring it too a detailing shop and have them shampoo it. If they can get the smell of mold and dirt off the mats after a harsh winter, soup should be a sinch.

throw the mat down on the pavement and shampoo it yourself with something called "natures miracle" it's an organic cleaner for pets! crap, vomit, food whatever! it gets it out with no damage to carpet fibers. all organic! can be bought at any pet store! scrub brush the hell out of it, rinse, let dry, and see what it smells like? you can also use febreeze after you have washed it to make it smell even better! the problem is soup or any perishable food has some sort of fat/lard, etc...once that gets rotten, like sour milk! it's almost impossible to save carpet! might need a new mat? good luck!
