automatic transmission temp sensor is on and D5 flashes intermittently

Just bought a 2003 MDX and the A/T Temp light comes on and off intermittently on the dashboard. In addition, the D5 flashes intermittently also on the dashboard. Any idea what the problem might be and how to fix it? I have to get the car safety inspected in the state of VA and I don't think it will pass inspection with the A/T Temp light on the dashboard lit. My brother in law whom I bought the car from said it is just a nuisance light and not a big deal....nice of him to tell me that now after I bought it from him!

The flashing D means there's a DTC stored in the ECM. Address this first before the A/T Sensor.

Check the A/T Temp connector or change the sensor.
