auto shifter
The only time its ever useful is when your driving down a curvy back road like fsttyms said. It's not functional in the city because it will shift on its own without your input.
1. It will not shift down if the computer senses the shift will hurt the transmission.
2. If you come to a complete stop it will shift from the gear you are in to 1st by itself.
3. It shifts from 1st to 2nd by itself. It does not hold 1st any longer than it would if it were in automatic mode.
4. If you continously run the car at redline, it will upshift by itself.
All are good things that prevent damage to the car, but shifting from 1st to 2nd by itself defeats the purpose of having a "manual" mode.
*It also states in the manual what speeds its safe to downshift/upshift.

read all about the SS mode and how to use it
WARNING downshifting with SS will cause lots of wear on 2nd and 3rd gear clutches- thats the weak point in trans--
Use it to accellerate off the apex, use brakes to slow the car
If you dont know how to, or what an apex is--stay out of SS and use D5

i cant agree with that cus iv hit the rev limiter and it stayed there, i only held it there are about 2 sec. i dont know how long you must hold it there to have it shift up by its self or if thats even true. if the type-s is different than the tl-p could be another factor. but it sure seemed like it wasnt going to shift out of 2nd into 3rd gear by its self wen i did it, so i hit the shifter and put it into 3rd. but i need someone to chime in here.

I had a friend who bought a brand new 2000 prelude back in the day, and he used the sport shift ALOT! the tranny only lasted about 10,000 miles, i dont know if its bad to use it or maybe he was doing something else wrong, but I dont think its a good idea to use it, if you got a automatic, what do you need to use it for? get a manual car, or do a swap...just my 2 cents
