- Auto Insurance for TL-S -

Gentlemen:

Im Canadian and this is the first time that I'm purchasing Auto Insurance in the U.S.

Ive been getting quotes from $1800 - $2000 per year. The basic 100/300/100 with 500 and 1000 deductibles. The prices here are way beyond Canadian insurance by about 50%.

I know there are a lot of variables that determine cost but I just want to know if the price range listed above is fair.

What are you guys dishing out for Auto Insurance????

Thanks.

I'm paying $350/6 months for my CL-S 6 speed .. with one speeding ticket - this is my only vehicle (no multi-car discount) and I have a home owner's policy discount too.

$2000 is cheap. Im 21 and still living at home. Under my parents insurance and me as the primary driver it would be $5800/yr. That is with no points. But I'm not paying that because I'm not the primary driver. I would of never gotten the TL-S if I had to pay that.

I don't know if this is considered inexpensive, but I have a clean record and I'm paying $1409 per year for a TL-S.

I'm paying 700/year for excellent coverage. No Tix, No Accidents.

I'm pissed at insurance companies because they can use any excuse to raise your rates. My sister can't find any cheap insurance on her car even though she has a perfect record. Every insurance provider that gives her a quote says that she is high risk, because she had 2 incidents where people hit her while she was parked in traffic.

FF, that sounds about right for MD area. Depends on how old you are too. After 25 for males in the NY area is a big swing. Not sure how the age thing works in MD.

The funny thing is, people like Mr. there, under the age of 25 are mostly (IMO) better drivers with better reflexs. And they're considered "high risk"?!?! Ok granted, you might see someone that age weaving through traffic like a basket, but I'd rather have that then the 80 year old dude with the terminator goggles signaling left and turning right.
Mr. , stay the "occasional driver" as long as you can . hehe

DD, Uhhh.....that's dirt cheap !!....and a speeding ticket !! I gotta move.

I'm in the $1600 range/year. No tics/clean record.

I'm paying $450/6 months. I'm 29, no tickets and accidents free (knock on wood). You might also want to take a better look at the coverage levels. For instance, I saved about 20 bucks for not taking their bodily injury coverage. For my case, since I have work health insurance, opting for that would be double coverage. If I get into an accident and got injured, my work insurance will cover it, so why pay again for the auto insurance? They don't like it either when you figure that out. =)

Thanks a lot for the input. Appreciate it.

I guess the price range is pretty fair then,
considering that:
1. the TL-S is considered an intermediate performance auto
2. auto sticker cost is pretty high.
3. i have a couple of speeding tickets.
4. brand new MD driver's license

Thanks.

I'm paying $1650 for the year. I'm with TD Meloche Monnex - but they only deal with affiliated associations (ie. University of Toronto).

I have a 2000 TL (not Type-S).

Insurance is way cheaper in Canada because the largest political party is not owned and operated by the American Trial Lawyers Association. The largest contributor to the D.N.C. is the trial lawyers. Also, because of more sensible compensation laws, Canadians do not see the courts as a get rich quick scheme.

I am in your area (Northern Virginia) and I am under 25 (actually 23 years old), so no big discount for age, and I have no points... I pay ~$1400 a year for $500 collision and $250 comprehensive. I have a homeowner's discount, and a multi-year discount because I've been with the same company since I was 17..

I'm using Prudential in Washington DC. If you're interested in getting a quote from them, PM me and I'll give you the agent's number.

In NY they consider it a level 2 sports car. Don't ask me how, but they tell me they firgure it by weight of car vs. engine size. I have a clean record and pay about $2200 a year.

So far Nationwide has treated me pretty well. When all the rates industry wide went up this last time around mine only went up about $30/6 mo. ($335 for a 94' Eagle Talon and $500 dec.)

Even two years ago when I hit a dear only slightly (she rolled up on my hood ) Nationwide put that under their "Stupid Animal" clause and cut my deductable in half to $250. My rates didn't go up either.

Interesting. You country boys have it easy. Around here, all we have is pedestrians. Wonder if they have a "stupid pedestrians" clause where if some jay walkers "rolled" up my hood, I won't get in trouble for it?

Axleback-

I'm kinda half and half now. I grew up in the city but sorta live in the country. Anyway, I used to visit my father at work at the fire station some years ago. He worked in the absolute nastiest part of Cincinnati there is (called the West End). I think there's something like 80% Welfare recipients that live there. I used to drive, then, a 75' Mercury Montego MX with a 351W. Just to see ol' 375lb. Shaniqua scoot her ass a little faster accross the street when dual exhaust, passing gear and an eight foot wide chome bumper was comin' was pretty damn funny!

That's some funny $hit. I know a Shaniqua and she does get pretty close to 375lbs. Wonder if we are talking about the same person.

Just called my agent yesterday (Nationwide) and for a prospective 03' TL-S it would be $378/6 mo.

Demographic:

37 years (I'm NOT) old.
No Points.
No claims in two years that were my fault.
Personal use only (6,600 miles/year or less).
Live in the burbs.

:banghead: I've been with USAA for just over one year and they are raising my premium every six months on my '02 TLS. I have no tickets or accidents and I'm way on the other side of 25.

I'm now paying $1210. per year with $200 deductible for collision and comprehensive with a multi-car and low annual mileage discount.

Holy cow. Some of you guys are getting raped!!

My family's paying approximately 650 dollars/6 months with full coverage including rental and everything with AAA. And I thought that was expensive.

Granted we did get discounts, and if I raise my GPA, we get another hundred or so bucks off. (Is the hundred bucks worth it? )

Still... I guess I should consider myself lucky.
