Thumbs up Never

I love this feature, and can't imagine why I'd turn it off.

I have heard, however, that some people hate auto-dim mirrors. I can't figure out why - I wish we had outside auto-dim mirrors also!

I wish I had the outsides too, but after tinting the side windows it helped with that, and no glare gets through so that's nice.... I believe the 2002's have the auto-dim on the side mirrors, sweet stuff.

I turned it off when I bought the car to see what the difference was. It's been on ever since.

The outside rearview mirrors on my 2002 have a blue tinted hue to them whereas the ones on my 2000 did not. I haven't really checked it out, but are these linked to the inside mirror auto-dimming feature?

2002 is treated with the blue surface to reduce glare, but it is not auto-dimming or in any way linked to the inside rear-view mirror.

So that's why that little green light is there...LOL!

I never shut it off. It works so well I never even think about it.

That's funny, mine is always off. I guess I don't need to use it since my tints are pretty dark and it blocks off most of the lights anyways.
BTW, is it all right to leave it on all the time, even if you turn your car off/on all the time??? In other words, will it mess up if you leave it on all the time?

Nope. There's a sensor on the back of the mirror (left of the thing that holds it to the window)...try putting your hand there - it will darken the mirror to almost grey/black. It's always on, so if it's raining or dusk, it has a tendency to darken...but it can't hurt your car.

PS - my Grand Cherokee Limited's outside mirrors darken as well as the interior -- wish my TL had that....damn hicks and their High Beams

Re: Re: Never

I leave my auto-dim off on the rear view mirror because it makes every light you see behind you look like an HID. I don't like that. I like to be able to distinguish between regular headlights and HID's because HID's are usually on a car worth taking a look at. Just me

On the 2002's, the sensor is on the bottom front of the mirror, on the opposite side from the green light that tells you the auto-dimming feature is on. And the sensor darkens the mirror with the *presence* of light, not the lack thereof (at night) This way when headlights shine through your rear window, they hit the sensor and cause it to darken (it takes about 10-15 seconds to go from fully off to fully on). The only reason I can see for turning it off is if your sunroof is open during the day the bright sunlight sometimes fools the sensor and darkens the mirror in the daytime.

Mine is on all the time and I think it is a very nice feature.

As most of my driving is during the daytime, mine usually stays off. I turn it on only as I have the need for it.

Mine is always off. Never bother to turn it on... auto-dim for outside mirrors would be nice though..

I keep it off because I don't like the combination of the lines from the rear defroster, tint and the auto dimmer. Before I got the tint I used the auto dimmer and it worked well.

Question should be when do you turn it on? I keep it off except when there is a truck right behind me.
