Smoked an Audi A6 2.7T off the line yesterday. Was probably a triptronic model (couldn't tell though since it was tough to see out my rear view mirror if you know what I mean.) Guy in the car was eyeballing me something fierce at the light, till I brake torqued him all the way back to Deutschland.....

Must have been either a Tiptronic or a really bad driver. The A6 2.7T manual is actually quite quick stock...high-5s in the 0-60...and blazing fast if it's been chipped. Still, congrats!

 

Good run. The A6 2.7t Tip runs 6.5 and 15.0 1/4 mile stock. Watch out for the chipped ones ! : ) they kinda move out. The stock Tips really get going after the first 60' and move till the limitier hits at 136. Again nice run and be careful out there.

I love my TLS but I love those S4s and A6 2.7Ts! either one of those with a chip will blow any TLS/CLS away...except for the very few that are spraying or the even fewer that have a SC....or the lone CLS6 that is TCed! Don't hate on those Audis!

 

They are good cars minus the electrical problems and frequent recalls.

High 5's 0 to 60 is BS. The S4 is high fives with the same engine and a much lighter car.

Nevertheless, a manual 2.7T would be no easy kill. It would probably own you with a proper quattro launch.

 

A6 2.7T 6 speed can do 5.8-5.9 0-60's. Stock 6 speed A6 has run 14.4 1/4's at Englishtown( And in a mag comparo they got 14.4 or 14.5). They do 1.9-2.0 60's at the drags. But,,,, thats not the norm! Most are over 6.0 and run 14.6-14.8 1/4's. On the street when the car is hot those numbers go up even more(heat, heatsoak). The S4 car is ~ .4-.6 quicker/faster than the A6 counterpart. WEight and less aggressive ECU factor in.
A tip A6 - a kid on a Razor will take it for the first 60' !!! : ) They can get 2.2-2.3 60's at the drags. THe TCU only allows revs to 2300 under braking. They go OK after that. But being quick or fast isn't what the A6 whale is about. Geez its a 3850lb car (tip A6) without driver. It only has 250hp(understated I think) and 258lbs torque. But the K03s's kick in at ~1850rpms and you get the full 258lbs at 1850rpms !!. i would think a manual to manual or Tip to auto the Cl-S has the straight race advantage(slightly exept the Automatics where the CL-s should have bigger advantage).
Again thats not the purpose of the A6, what I like is , after spending 2 days at the Willow Springs Track, racing around the turns, and pass some and get passed by some, when its all said and done, I get to drive home in the A6, its kinda comfortable on the road. Just makes ya smile to think, that with any car you can track and still ride home with the AC on, radio going, cruise control, leather seats, thats kinda nice. ( And that's all brands you can do this with, not just the A6 or S4, but CL-s, Tl-S, GS4's and others)

I was just busting RiceBurner's chops. I ride in his TL-S every week for lunch. Nice car. More room inside than my S4 that's for sure. My back seat is a joke. Yes, a good number of the S4's blew their turbos, but it seemed to be an early production problem or the result of owner mods. My turbos are fine with 41K miles. And, no, there hasn't been any s4 recalls, so I am not sure what one of the posters was referring to. And no electrical problems either.

S4 will not own a TLS stock for stock although I agree it is faster and the S4 will win more than lose. Now if we talk aftermarket support...well the TLS barely has any! S4 is a great car and had it been a little bigger and maybe 10 grand cheaper I'da been all over it! The S4 is an M3 competitor but needs some aftermarket support to get there (chip evens the playing field).

Nah I wish I could afford one. I decided to go with a 2003 A4 Avant 1.8T. I decision was finally made when

1)Went through 3 trannies

2)Rattled like a 20 year old car

3)Rotors prematurely warped like crazy.

4)Modding was limited, perhaps coz the trannies sucked ass.

Don't get me wrong I think the TL-S is a phat car and all but it just isn't worth all the problems many of us has been through.
