ATF brand?

New Acura owner... 99 TL with 130K+ on the odo. With all this talk about tranny problems, that I didn't find out about till after purchase,(no matter, still REALLY like the car) it would seem that tranny maintenance is very important. Have been a BIG believer in Mobil 1 products for a long time now and changed ATF during first oil change (also M1!) mostly because it was so easy to do. Anyone have any data about which fluid to use. What is different about "Honda" ATF? Does anyone else change teir ATF on ascheduled basis?
Thanks!

you need to use the Honda ATF fluid - only. Dont really know why for sure, but that is the case. Our trannys are very picky, and the Honda/Acura fluid is the only kind you should use.

Some change their fluid as often as 10 or 15K, others 30 or 50K. I would stick with whatever you really think. I just got mine done at 72K for the first time and it was still ok.

welcome to the board!

redline, amsoil and honda only you may want to go to a redline or amsoil due to them being synthetic. im switching over at my next change (i change mine every 10,000 miles)

Well I defineately believe that FULL SYN is the way to go... that's WHY I use Mobil 1 products. Amsoil is actually made from M1 base stock,(some would say the best in the world) and then add some different additives. Redline deffinately makes very good products, just hard to find.
So no one uses M1 in this group!?

redline or royal purple full synthetic. if you really want protection go with one of those. there is nothing wrong with honda atf in my opinion, but redline or royal purple will give you the extra bit of security.

mobil 1 is excellent stuff, but i personally don't know too much about the ATF they make. i find it easier to just order redline on the internet when you know you need it.

only one of those brands is certified by honda for use. i cant remember which one, but i believe its amsoil. if you use a different brand thats not certified by honda and your tranny fails, you may be asking for a battle to get them to cover your tranny under warranty

Yes it is Amsoil that is. Just be sure you check before you change.
