I hear it's not worth the money for the TLs.

I heard that if you have a stock tl it wont make much of a difference but if you have a modded tl with stuff like CAI, Headers, Exhaust then it will be more useful.

i have it and think it is pretty sweet. i havent gotten it dyno tuned because i am waiting until my headers/cat/new exhaust/ and MM are on. I'll let you know when i get it dyno'd. it definitely looks cool though!

This device though pretty cool looking is more or less useless.I have seen several installed in various cars and mostly they caused more problems than they solved.Ideally this device is useful in situations where the car has been severely modified. As an example a hot set of camshafts or porting and polishing or forced induction. This device is not helpful in situations where only the basic bolt on stuff has been done. The factory ecu has sufficient programming in it to accomodate things like cold air setups and headers.Changing the VTEC engagement point is also fruitless as the engineers at Honda did a pretty good job setting the car up.Also keep in mind that when VTEC is engaged the ignition timing is altered to take advantage of the extra air and fuel available. The Apex i VTEC controller makes no accomodations to change timiong curves.Vtec vehicles make very careful use of intake air speed etc to make power simply changing the VTEC engagement point with this device does not make more power simply because the rest of the engine is still stock.Jens

I will have to agree with Jens on this point. I went to a TL meet here in Vancouver over the summer, and this guy had one for his TL. He told me he disconnected his because it gave him more trouble than it was worth (engine would misfire, run roughly, or something like that).

I actually just purchased one but it is not installed yet. I got this because i was thinking more in the future for when i get my supercharger. I hear that it is much easier to control the supercharger with this. just what i have heard but it does look tight.

Quote from a week or so ago -

"Installed the Apex V-AFC controller in the sunglass holder. Followed Tann's and a few others lead ... Pain in the Azz to wire... 4 hours epoxy molding the sunglass holder to accomodate the display unit securely... plus painting to match.. It doesnt show in the photo's because of the cameras flash but it does match In all I havent tuned it on the dyno but baseline I run a bit leaner off the line on WOT settings and baseline elsewhere... VTEC on @ 4600 RPM, VTEC off @ 4500 .. all in all is a hair peppier off the line BUT where it really helps is power distribution on vtec engagment is much smoother now Gtech times have been consistently .1 - .2 lower under very similar temp/humidity/location runs.... "

I disagree with the non believers. When I had H/I/E, I dynoed my car with stock settings and I pulled 198HP to the wheel and the power curve was horrible (almost looked like a turbo effect, flat then all of a sudden rushed up to 198). After tuning it, I gained 6HP to the wheel and the curve was smoother and no more turbo effect. I set my VTEC to engage at 4400 and gas was sucking like crazy. BTW, everyone your VTEC does not engage before 5300 in stock form, don't believe me ask your Acura dealer service guy.

Oh, don't ask me for my settings. I don't have the car anymore.

everybody knows that when VTEC engages there is a loss of HP. You can always see the dip on the dyno. By tuning with the V-AFC it is possible to remove that dip. If u remove that, I'm sure it will make a diference, since that dip is about 10-20hp loss.
