Anyone rebuild their own transmission?

Just wandering if anyone has changed out their own 3rd gear clutch pack. I have had one tranny fo so far but it was under warranty(changed @ 56K). The next one will not be so nice as the car has 103K on it. Ive rebuilt engines but not auto trannies.

I think working on a modern automatic transmission may be a little too advanced for most DIYers.

I've never heard of someone trying to do that. I've heard of people pulling out their own tranny and putting a junk one in there, but not actually pulling the original unit apart.

I wouldn't advise anyone without proper training even attempt it. My builder has over $20k in tools that he uses to rebuild trannys.

i rebuilt mine on my 99 3.0 cl.. not as muc stuff inside but im sure i could do it on one of these.. besides sensors thier basically the same.. took me 3 days.. one gettin it out and tore down, one replacing the guts/ putting it back togather, and one reinstalling it. it wasent hard at all.. def not worth the 3g's they charge to do it.. i paid 300$ total for parts and a new acura service manual from www.helminc.com. i have the site to get the master kit if you need it.

Thanks for all of the replies, If/when my tranny goes I may just pull it out and have a go, i dont think i could mess it up more than it would already be.

I did mine and it requires alot of special tools or a good imagination to make your own. Its not like you are just replacing 1 part. There is alot to do to do it, they have to be put in a specific order and iked for tolerance. I would also recomend replacing ALL the clutch packs while your in there. There is alot to clean out and honda recomend replacement of some selonoids while your in there.

2 sum it up, its not something i would recomend doing unless your Very mechanically inclined and have alot of tools.

Acura TL Automatic Transmission

I was reading your input on rebuilding your transmission. I'm having a hard time finding the master rebuild kit for my transmission. I would really appreciate if could shed some light on where I might be able to get the kit. I have the B7VA 4 Speed Automatic transmission.

Any info or advice would highly be appreciated.

Thank you,

Thank you,
I would buy the parts from here

http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/...catdisplay.jsp

You really need to tear the trans down and see what you really need to replace.

Sorry to go off topic, but how hard would it be to build a racing-esq transmission for the TL? I love that whine you hear with those... Stupid question I know, not something I think I would do either.

nice, thanks elproducto.

One more question, how bout the manual for the transmission. I know it's asking alot, but worth the try. If I'm able to get the book. I will post pics of the repair next month.

Funny you mentioned that whine. After i got my tranny replaced from first to second theres a whine up noise. Hasn't cause any problems should I worry about it? Yea, I know it's off topic....sorry.

One thing to make sure of is that these places have updated material parts.

Very. And it would be VERY expensive for some one to manufacture straight cut gears whis is what makes the whine (thats why you hear manuals in reverse make noise)

Are you sure that your TL is not covered by the 109,000 mile/7 year 9 month extended warranty?
