a dimple drill is basically to vent the pad. but when you dimple drill you somewhat keep the structural integrity of the rotor. unlike drilling completely through which what people claim causes fractures due to the rotor structure was comprimised due to the hole. ive heard great things about the dimple drill. it keeps the rotor just a little stronger and vent the pad as well. too me its basically a slot but in hole configuration. a friend of mines ran the dimple drill and slotted on his 3000gt and he loved it. i believe a friend of mines had a crossdrilled rotor and it cracked. but thats because he lived in hawaii so it rains a lot so the rotor goes though drastict temp changes. but either or i believe its how it is drilled and machined will cause the problems. i have slotted on mines and i have not had a problem yet.

Ok so you want the shiiite in brake rotors?
You need slotted- nothing else and Hawk Pads......... in my opine

Go to the top of this page and click on Off Topic then Sponsored Sales
for vendors Excellerate and MrHeelToe
both have links to homepage and -special deals for acurazine members- ads in there
Excellerate has Rotora slotted www.rotora.com
Mr Heel Toe has Racing Brake rotors www.racingbrake.com
for info on why I think these are the best - really nice 1 piece rotor with extra cooling methods, read the website

Then call both or PM them for pricing. Sometimes there are contract rules that prevent them from posting some prices on the forum

Both will offer package deals and have braided brake lines and other parts too.

Heel Toe is 1-949-295-1668 pacific time
Excellerate- I promise to memorize your number so I can add it here as well

An educated consumer makes the BEST customer!

Also break in your new brakes gently driving for a few hundred miles, then do the brake pad bedding procedure listed with the pads.
Then they work amazing and no worry of warping or noises.

Good Luck

I have heard that dimpled rotors create more noise when braking, due to brake pads passing over the dimples but unable to vent out the gas like drilled-through rotors.

You do not need dimpled. They must be precisely drilled and chamfered or you have trouble.
Slots allow all the outgassing you will need on a TL, and I do track days at good speed with no issues and use daily on the street with wife driving.
To each his own on brand choice.
Look at the manufacturer links I provided above and judge for yourself.
The brakes are the most important part of the car!!!!!!!!!
If you cant stop- everything else is just a pile of parts next to that tree!
I like the Racing Brake because they are made with trick and patented curved inner cooling vanes- an upgrade over stock and works great, AND the way they do the coating to it never rust, PLUS the special metallurgy.
Their parent company makes and supplies brakes right in the USA, for auto makers as OE for new cars. RB is the performance division of that company.

yes as 01tl4tl said they have to be precisely drilled if they were not manufactured as drilled they were not meant to be drilled and will not be strong and they will crack easily proper cross-drilled should not crack easily

True Properly designed -built and drilled for that that purpose are outstanding - not to mention $$$$$$$$- and for use IF you have a 150 mph race car.

Most cheap ones are not- they are drilled aftermarket and probs arise.

look at all the pages of info at www.racingbrake.com
they show all the different ways you can make rotors
then go look at what you have and whats on ebay
then call heeltoe

educate yourself and then understand ebay may not have the rotors your life depend on.
