Anyone know how to install spark plugs on TL-S?

I just received my Denso Iridium spark plugs for TL-S today. I was wondering if I could install them myself or take it to a mechanic? I tried to find where the spark plug on my TL-S and I could not find where they are located. I even took some plastinc caps off that are on top of the engine and I still could not locate them.

Did anyone install them on their own?

Should I take to a mechanic?

Pretty easy (except the rear passenger side one is a bear)
Just follow the instructions in your owners manual

Let me know if you feel any difference with the new plugs. I was thinking about getting some. Where did you get them anyway??

How could this spark plug change "feel". It either ignites the spark or it doesn't. Unless you are indexing the plugs, this is an exercise is wasted time and money.

Thay claim that these plugs add 6hp and increase mpg. That would "feel" good.

I'd check the "THEY" -- BNUT was the one who compared his OLD 30K miles plugs to the Denso Iridiums and showed the dyno with another 6hp.

However, it only says that you will gain 6hp on his car when you change out OLD plugs.

BTW -- in a recent article in Sport Compact Car they just did a "standard" ignition tune-up -- they changed the plugs, wires, and distributer cap and got 6 HP -- does this ring a bell for you. (We don't have high voltage spark plug wires and a distributer -- we have a single coil for each spark plug!)

Finally, I have a graph of a Platinum+4 vs Iridium and the difference is only 1 HP or so.

Here is the comparo of the Platinum vs. Iridium:

Judging by the info you gave, EricL, it doesn't look like they are worth the money. Thanks.

This post is mine and I must admit I was a sceptic, but they do make a difference.

I got them for my Accord V6 and I could feel the difference in both hp & torque @ low end (that's what I want) even though it's only a butt-dyno! The idle is also smoother and yes those back three plugs are the ***** to replace (no room and my engine was still kind of hot)!

I was kind of skeptical about the spark plugs too and am still skeptical but before I decided to purchase the spark plugs, I did a lot of reading. I went to Yahoo search engine and read many postings on the net. I found lots of positive things about the Iridium plugs. I did NOT find one BAD posting about the spark plugs. Thats when I decided to give it a shot. I read many great posting on the HONDA fourm also.

Wink

Well, those anecdotes seems to have won, so although I still am unconvinced (I tend to use my Head Dyno rather than my Butt Dyno) but let me makea few suggestions from an oldf wrench:

1) Do not change when the engine is hot - even really warm - let it cool down

2) Use a torque wrench and set to spec - alum heads are fragile, and optimum compression and spark are obtained by the plug seating just right.

3) Get a short length of 3/8" rubber hose (auto type) this is really handy for starting the plugs in the back - it will give you flex and reach, and also keep you from cross threading. If you have just started to thread and the plug slips in the hose, you are likely cross threaded.

4) Use a small amount of anti-seize if the plugs you are using do not have an anti-gall coating (the stock plugs already do). Only use a small amount on the first few threads from the bottom. Do not glob it on - and do not get any on the electrodes! Anti-seize is conductive, and too much can cause a short in the plug, leading to all sort of diagnostic confusion and a misfire.

Thumbs up

Nice advice there, Rage. The hose trick works really well, in my experience.

Thanks for your advice but I got ithe spark plugs installed by a mechanic today. I did not want to take a chance.

Anyway, I know some of you guys wanted some input after installing the spark plugs. So here it goes

I don't know if its my head but the car seems smoother. Especially when I press on the gas really hard. The car also seems faster or I could feel little bit more torque at low end but than again it could be my head.

Honestly, I don't regret puchasing them and I don't think its my head because I am very very sensative about cars.

Just for FYI,

My car is just over one month old with 3600 mi on it, so OEM sprark plugs are pretty new. (OEM is by NGK w/platium taper tip but not as taperd as Denso Iridium.)

If anyone out there also got Denso Iridium spark plugs installed on their car, please give me your input. I don't think its my head but I just want to double check.

Glad you are happy, but...

This thread brings up classic participant-observer issues such as cognitive dissonance and user bias, and is the reason drugs and speakers are analyzed using double-blind techniques and measurements.

I saw a post the other day of a guy who spent $15,000 on an 8ft pair of speaker cables - and he said they made a difference - anyone surprised?
