Question Anyone have a roof rack on the TL?

I may put a Yakima or Thule roof rack on my '99 MBP, but I wanna see what it looks like. Any body out there with pics of one on a TL?

Yea, I know it will slightly mess up the paint, but I had one on my black Prelude and it barely left a mark.

Sorry no pics but I have seen a 99 TL with a Yakima rack on top and looked pretty good. Now that I think about it, I saw it around Gaithersburg, not too far away from you.

Anybody have any idea how the rack comes off the car without leaving marks on either to roof, or the gutter edges? I want to put a bike rack on the roof of my car but i have not done it because i figured it would ruin the paint eventually.

Hate to dig up a dead thread.

I bought a trunk bike rack for my car, but I'm looking for something that won't scratch the car up like a roof rack.

Does anyone currently have a roof rack on their second gen that can post some pictures? All the old posts with pictures are dead (I tried searching first).

Thanks

If its a good roof rack it wont scratch up the car. BUT you have to remember your lifting something to the roof which leaning over it can scratch it. You also have to remember not to drive into your garage if you have one. I prefer the Trailer Hitch mounted bike rack (which i have but no pics of on the car)

I'm exploring both options actually. Do you have trouble accessing the trunk with the Bikes on the hitch?

If you dont mind standing from the side to get into it no. Ive never had a problem. There are also ones that swing off to the side to allow you to get in easier, and ones that tilt down to allow trunk lids to open. The pay off here is there is virtually no chance os scratching the car with the trailer hitch style.

Hey Fatty...what size is the receiver of your hidden hitch? I'm debating putting my old Thule I've had lying around for years, although if getting a hidden hitch and then a hitch bike rack might be better? I won't have to worry about the overall height of my car (if I go thru drive thrus at fast foods) if I go that route...

prelude

if you get it, just make it useful... a rack without a cause is a waste of money and can lower your mpg...

Ok, did some thinking over the weekend...
#1: Hitch route is the most expensive. $150 for the hitch and another $150+ for a good 3 bike rack.
#2: Roof rack would be my second choice since I already have the older Thule rectangular load bars. All I'll need is a fit kit $65 and the fork mount "tray"....those range in price depending on condition off craigslist.

The last is the ole trunk mount. Being that I've got the OE spoiler, it makes finding one more difficult..one that clears the wing completely.

Any suggestions?
