anyone do 225-45-17 tires on type-s
I am lowering my car on comptech springs Sat. I also am in need of some new tires soon. I am going to wait till after all this snow to get them. Now I am on 215-50-17 and am thinking of going a little wider. What do you guys think, 225-50-17 or 225-45-17. The 50's do not look to big so I think I like 225-50-17.
Also after the car is dropped I am going to need an alignment. If I do not care for these tires should I wait about a month to get new tires put on and then have the car alligned.
What is a good tire for all season performance at a decent price, I felt like my falcons wore out quick for normal driving. Thanks again for the opinions guys!!!!!

If you can find a tire you like in 225/50/17 then go for it. It is the same diameter as the stock TLP tires.
I'd be inclined not to undersize since you will increase your wheel gap.

I have 235/45 on stock rims. Love it. Look at 235/45 as they have almost the same wheel height for speedo continuity.

I am not sure, I want something with an agressive tred pattern. All sason but more toward street/summer time. Winter I am hoping will be over soon, this snow is not helping. I am going with 225-50-17.
Goldendragen, you have the conti's they are more winter tires right?????
(pmptx) is your car dropped. I will have the comptech's on Sat and do not want a wide wheel causing me to rub. If they will not then I will get 235's, I think the wider the better. What tires do you have

The Conti is a Ultra-High Performance All Season tire. It's a Z rated tire that happens to be very good in the snow! The Conti and Sumo HTR+ are your two best and most popular tires right now. I personally like the conti's a little better but I have heard there has been problems with vibrations with them if you don't get a good set. But everyone got them changed for free.

I should have looked at them when I gave you the knobs. Are you going to that meet Sat, It is kinda cold for a meet? Do you have a pic of the wheels, they are on tire rack? How much?

I got a set of Contis. One tire was defective. I was sent a new one which arrived the next day and I was all set. UPS will come to pick up the tire next week and I just have to leave it outside for them.
So far my snow experience with a storm we had yesterday that dumped 8-12" of snow was okay. I did not get the traction I wished for, but it was better than my stocks. The VSA definitely helps though it does not protect from lateral sliding. I get some vibration from flat spotting but it goes away after less than 1 mile on the highway.

I got my tires for a total of $415 including installation, road hazard warranty and the tires. The tires are on tire rack. Check the rating, it doesn't get much better then that for the price!! I probably wont' be going to any meets until the spring.

I have the Conti Extremes, and they have been fine as far as vibration. I don't have a drop on my car. Plan on engine mods, but not much on the cosmetic side. Better to be fast and then you only need a good looking rear end.

50's would keep all the gauges accurate. The total radius would be the same as stock. Even though it looks meatier, it would run a lot like stock. As long as the tire is rated pretty high, you don't have to worry about driving fast on those tires. I also like the conti's because of the thread life. It was rated an 8 where an average is a 5-6. I've gone 120 on my conti's so unless your doing 120mph all the time, the speed rating would be fine.
To get the best price, print out the tirerack.com price, then take it to sears and see if they will match it. Your best bet for quality tires installed at a quality place for a lot less. Good luck and keep us posted on which ones you get.

I am also looking at replacing my OEM in a few months.
I am looking to get the Michelin Pilot A/S. I talked with Tirerack and they said they would not recommend 235/45/17 for our stock rims. They said 225/50/17 was the widest that would safely fit.
I will probably be going for the 225/50/17 size when I replace.

Several people are running them on this forum. I'm interested and I've been collecting information for a few months and I've found or heard of no problems with 235/45s on TLS rims.

I think I am going to do the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S AT about
$125 each
Surveyed Averages 9 8.8 8.5 7.2 8.7 8.8 8.8 8.9 9.1 with this kind of performance they will last longer and are good for Jersey driving.
Now can I do 235-45-17 on tl-s wheel, are they 7" wide??? I want 235 width if it will fit, I know it may not be recomended

It fits but a lot of people are not running them because I think a 7" rim is RECOMMENDED. But I don't thik putting it on 6.5" rim is dangerous, based on the feedback and information I've collected.

tl-s rim is 6.5? and what cl-s is 7" 6.5 is very small for a car that is supposed to have a better suspension and handing. They should have done 7.5 with a 235-45-17 or something!

Manufacturers are VERY conservative with their recommended rim width ranges.
eg. Dunlop recommends 7.5 inches minimum for 225/45/17 for their 9090
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...=SP+Sport+9090
I had 245/45/17 Firehawk SZ50 on my 6.5 inch TL rims. No problems whatsoever. The sidewall will flex to make up the difference although you will lose some sidewall stiffness because the flex point is no longer in the middle of the sidewall (it's closer to the shoulder).
I personally think 225/45/17 is way too small a diameter for our car.

thanks hermit, so you are saying just go with the 235-45-17 perilli's, I was nevrous but I guess you know from experience. Are you riding 235's now?? thanks

OK I'll answer even though you called me "hermit"
I'm pretty certain that any 235/45/17 will be fine.
But if you want to be sure, search the archives for specific brands that people have put on. Every tire is designed differently and will be able to cope with the extra bend differently.
Good luck!

call the company you got the wheels from, or someone who carries them and they ca ntell you!
I think the offset is how the wheel sticks out, it has to do with the spacing from the hub. Not sure but I know offset has a lot to do with rubbing. You arw also running an 8 inch rim while I would do 235-45-17 on the oem 6.5 inch wheel
