Anyone With CAI w/ Different Filter
Anyone With CAI w/ Different Filter
I have an AEM CAI on my car, however I'd like to put a K&N filter on it. The problem is, when shopping for a cone K&N filter i'm not sure of the size I need. By the way I have a Type-S w/ fogs, I don't know if that will affect the size. Thanks

Um the AEM comes with a K&N filter. AEM doesn't make the filters for their CAI.
It's a 3" diameter filter (the part that connects to the CAI intake pipe is 3"

No...that's mainly for filtering and the ability to last longer between recharges. I upgraded because I decided to restore my Injen CAI and the original filter got beat up during storage.
History...
Stock airbox.>.stock Injen.>.Resornator-less stock airbox with K&N drop-in filter (got tired of having to remove the bumper to recharge the filter with the CAI).>.Restored Injen with NEW filter (put in too much work to just give it away)
I was originally going to give my Injen CAI away to whom ever was willing to trade my Thermal R&D exhaust for their stock ones. Noone took my offer (must of thought it was a fishy deal), so I decided to restore it to sweeten the deal a bit...but after looking at the final product I decided to keep it again.
edgalang,
Great pics! Now I know why the filter may interfere with the foglight. With the AEM V2, the pipe ends with the filter pointing down, right along the wheel well, it doesn't point forward. I don't know how the regular AEM CAI pipe fits but those considering a CAI may want to keep this in mind.

The regular AEM pipe has 3 bends, with the filter pointing forward directly hitting the back of the foglight assembly. This is why most users generally cut their CAI to make it fit. Unlike AEM, Injen has 2 bends with the filter sitting on TOP of the foglight.

1200 degree ceramic based engine paint (available at any local automotive store). It used to match the engine cover (the smurf blue color that people made fun of), but I ended up stripping it and just covering it black since the original finish got ruined. Stripping and sanding the old paint was probably the biggest PITA I've ever done. This was definitely a project I wouldn't do again.
