Anyone with '99

Hey everyone. Did anyone take their car in to have the dealer check your tranny?

1999 tranny

mines fine at 82,000. but my friend just had his tranny fail at 95,000 miles on his 1999 tl.

hope your tranny fails before 100,000 miles so that you can get a replacement. it would be a bummer to have it fail just after the 100k mark.

i did however take it into the dealership at 79,000 miles to check the tranny. they told me that it was fine and normal. i will be watching it closely from here to 100k

Can anything be done to help the tranny fail by 100k (and still be warrantable)???

Isn't the extended transmission warranty for 7 years or 100,000 miles? If so, then there's probably a lot of low mileage 1999 TL's that are facing expired tranny waranties in the next year or so. Including me. I have a 1999 TL that was first purchased in September of 1998 (when they first came out). And it currently has only 31,000 miles on it (it was my dad's up until a few months ago, and he didn't drive it much).

So far, no tranny problems, but I'd hate to think I may have problems in the future when it won't be covered under warranty!

I was told by my dealer that the 99 is not affected by the recall. From what I understand, the problem was introduced in '00. Additionally, TL (non S type) don't punish the tranny nearly as hard.

BTW, cars wear out. If you get much over 100,000 miles, stuff is going to need replacing. Hopefully not the tranny but you have to be realistic. Get a newer tl when yours flips the od

1999 models

the 1999 tl "IS" covered under the warranty. it originally was the 2000 model year and up. it was later modified to include the 1999 as well.

i took mine to the dealership to see if i had any problems. none so far. i am hoping that i can go till 150,000 miles. currently i have 82.000.

with the mods im doing, im hoping to drive/enjoy the car for at least couple years.

next car might be the g35

peace

Correct. They are and I even got a letter in the mail too.

Mine is fine too. I think the later models have the tarnny failures. Ours is good.

75k,mi and no prob even though...When the car is cold and i drop it into reverse to get out of the driveway, it goes in so hard the car jumps and a loud HIINCH screams from the tranny.

i still have another 2years/25000 on the tranny warranty hopefully it'll go before then, or last a long time after that!

'99s are not involved in the oil jet recall (four speed as opposed to the five speed tranny). However, they are covered under the extended tranny warranty.

Madcat -- you have a '99 and got a letter in the mail from Acura? What did it say?

Yea i got the letter also saying that it extended to 7yrs/100,000.
Then it said some crap like if your car is running under these conditions, then take it in to the dealer.

Happens to me, too, when I reverse.
I've got 102K, though, and no problems.

5 speed tranny

came out in 00

they get better gas mileage then our 1999's. the highway gearing is slightly better.

ours do pretty poorly in my opinion. the best gas mileage is ever gotten is around 21.6 mpg.

i even changed the tire pressure, spark plugs, intake and now im doing headers in hopes of increasing the mileage by few MPG.

i was hoping for around 24mpg.

I have a 99 w/96k miles and tranny is strong. I get really good gas mileage 26-27mpg if not more. I even need a tuneup and I don't have CAI yet. I'm going to just get a K&N filter and NGK iridium sparkplugs plus some long due maintainence. After I get a tranny flush, new tires and fuel cleaning service I should be getting close to 30mpg. I drive mostly highway but do a fair amount of city driving too. You shouldn't be getting 21.6mpg, that is awful! I only use 93 octane and ocasionally I will pour some octane booster and try to remember to get fuel injector cleaner after every oil change. It must make a difference because I have always gotten good mpg.
