any TL-S without rattles ???
#6
My TL-S, which now has about about 1100 miles, is completely Rattle and Squeak free so far.
I think that there are more problem-free TL-Ss out there than those with the rattle and squeak problems...its just that you don't hear people come on the board and say "mine's rattle free." It's those with rattles that love to come on this board and complain. Of course, that's what this board is for. But you shouldn't generalize the rattle problem to EVERYONE.

For what it's worth, my '98 CL turned 40,000 miles yesterday and there's not a rattle or squeak to be found. I'm a little surprised when I hear people complaining about Acura fit and finish, because we also put 35,000 miles on an Integra GS-R and it was as solid the day we traded it in as the day we bought it.

Rattles Fixed
I reported three noisy rattles when I took my TL-S in for service at 7,500 miles.
Two weeks later and all of the noises are still absent. My dealer (Pleasanton, CA) hung in there and fixed them. Intermittent noises are always tough.

- Frequent noise/rattle coming from engine bay or suspension. Very common around 40 mph, but none at all above 60 mph. They couldn't find it until a tech took a test drive with me and we triggered the noise by going over some Botts dots. The tech adjusted the hood latch and that fixed it.
- Noise near sunroof. They installed the kit we all know about and that fixed that one.
- Infrequent noises and rattles near the passenger door or seat. Don't know what they did, but it's gone too.

What some people determine to be rattles, may not necessarily be what others deem to be rattles. Some people are just more "paranoid" about "sounds" than others.
I betcha if I sat in anyone of your TL-S's .. those of you who say you have no sounds .. I'll find two or three.
Best of Luck.

What, I'm the only guy with rattles in here??
Had rattles from the center storage box and the rear subwoofer area. They iriitated the **** out of me. Both have been fixed. I'm glad to say I have been rattle free for the last 2,000 miles (sounds ominously like a AA meeting
Both TLS's I test drove before I purchased mine ALSO had rattles/squeaks. The first one's passenger seat squeaked loudly and the second one had rattles from the moonroof area. A little more subtle but audible nevertheless.
As Peter pointed out a lot has to do with how senitive your ears are. I have sensitive hearing and if my stereo isn't on I tend to pick up the faintest noises.
I am a little concerned I guess, as a car gets older rattles don't disappear they get worse.

Squeaks and rattles
I would add to one comment I read...
"Acura + stiff springs = squeaks and rattles. "
"Acura + stiff sprints + low profile tires = squeaks and rattles."
This is the only niggling problem I have with my TLS--the harshness over bad road (annoying), combined with a bit of extra weight, and without the benefit of a really good sport suspension (even worse). I love the car, however, and may tweak the suspension myself someday.

I totally agreed with PeterUbers . It really
depends on your ear sensiitivity.
My TLS has driver side dash creaking noise
just this week. It is getting louder and louder
when driving on bumpy highway. I plan to
take it to dealership during the 1st oil change.

Other than the sunroof rattle, nothing to complain about. And the rattle can't be heard unless the radio and the vent. sys is off and no one is talking. It's very subtle in my tl-s. Got 1500 mi.
BTW my wife's '99 CRV is absolutely rattle free at 25000 mi.

Watch those definitions - a rattle is in the car world considered to be when two similar materials are knocking together - a wrench hitting fender wall is a rattle - a loose suspension part hitting sheet metal is a rattle.
A weatherstrip squeaking is not.
One is a big deal - the other a minor annoyance in my book.
None of my 3 tl_s has ever rattled.

I agree 100% with Road Rage; theres a big difference between a rattle and a squeek. Theonly rattles my car had are due to stuff I put in the car; my sunglasses in the holder and my EZpass against my windshield when my music is turned up.
As far as squeeks go, I had teh moonroof squeek, my drivers side seatbelt has a squeek which has since been mostly relieved with WD-40 although not completely. And also I have noticed a little windnoise occasionally from the drivers side window, but all of these are very very minor things now. For a reference point the moonroof squeek was the loudest out of all of the sounds.
