Post any point in having a spare set of tires?

im getting summer tires soon
i'll most likely get winter tires later this year

that means my stock tires (with 30K+ miles) will be sitting in my basement.

do you guys see any point in mounting the stock tires on some steel rims? maybe if i plan on taking a long highway trip i can put them on, so i dont wear out the good tires

am i just wasting my time and money? (im pretty sure the shop will give me a good price)

I don't see much of a point to having three sets of tires and rims under the categories of: (1) summer; (2) winter; (3) crappy. The benefit of occasionally saving treadlife on your good tires doesn't seem worth the cost of buying and mounting them on steel rims, the time spent changing tires, etc. Unless, of course, you regularly do donuts in the Wal-Mart parking lot at 3 am.

As said in the past, the winters here are not so bad. Well....this past one was.

Anyway, my stocks did pretty well so I am just going to use them as my winter's so my rims don't get screwed up.

You can save some money if that is an option.

Shoot, if you are getting new tires so they work well...what's the point of having your old tires? Might as well sell it if they're going to give you a good price. I'm not going to change mine til it wears down...cause down here, we never have to change for winter tires

Two of my stock tires' side walls ripped. They are pretty crappy. Has this happened to anyone before??? I'm wondering if they should put a recall on the tire.
