I've got a call into my insurance company to find out if there are any benefits for this, and if they would do it for me. No word yet.

Which dealership is this, and who's your salesman?

My "salesman" tried to sell it to me, and I declined. When I picked up the car, the windows were already etched!
Guess I fooled them!

Window etching is just another dealership screw job, just like paint sealant, interior fabric conditioner and additional undercoating.
Bend over your dealership has something for you

Thanks for the post kensteele..
"Once your vehicle is etched with your code, it can not be removed or altered without damaging or replacing all of the vehicle's glass... a task that a car thief will avoid.." -hahaha
Thats not such a hard thing to get around if all you have to do is replace the glass in a vechicle.. many "chop shops have been doing that, if needed, for years..
sounds like another scam by dealerships as stated in previous posts..
buyer beware..

One dealer told me they'd swap the glass out if you didn't want it/didn't want to pay for it. Just another way to boost the ATF$.

Totally BS from the dealer! Why don't they charge you for a special clear-coat paint and then re-paint your car if you don't want it?
Which dealer was that and where?
I think we need a separate forum (maybe an overkill) to discuss people's experience with dealers in their area. If a dealer is treating its customer terribly, everyone should know about it. On the same token, if someone found a good dealer, other people might be interested too.
Just my .02

Lead Footed
It is if you can get ot for free.
I've been able to get them to throw it in for the last two cars I bought. I also have had good luck getting them to throw in the wheel locks.

The dealer put this on my 1998 Accord without consulting me, and added it onto the final negotiated price. I said I didnt ask for it and would not pay for it. They tried to justify the extra cost ($200.00), by saying that up to my $500 theft deductable would be paid if my car were stolen. I am a claims adjuster and am aware in Canada anyway, that there is no deductable if your entire vehicle is stolen. That shut up the dealer and they did not charge me. Dealers on the whole are scummier than Lawyers and will get what they can if you do not negotiate, and rebuff all their money making schemes, ie scotch guard, rust protection etc. Afterall the salespeople are on commission.
