Another trans dies No SS Mode Solved and DIY?
Hello again group. 2001 TL 67,350 miles 2nd owner
So today, after only 3 days of being in the dealer, they found a code for timing retarded. Since the engine runs fine, it was deemed slippage of the transmission- faking out the computer-into thinking it had engine over-revved,
and a new transmission was ordered.
It was also found to need the standard front motor mount replacement,
3/10ths hour labor, part and labor total 140 plus tax on part.
That explains the mystery fluid on the driveway!
My second complaint to them was intermittant failure of the D light on the dash to come on when shifting from Park to Drive. When that happens, it would not go into SS mode.
Since jiggling the shifter or shutting the car off and trying again- it would fix itself-
Their best guess is that soda or water spilled in the cup holder, through the plastic tray/console below it and finally dripped down into the selenoid the has 3 micro-processors and a bunch of exposed connectors and switches etc, that by replacing everything in there for a mere 500 something dollars, that would surely cure the problem.
So, there was the warning to all who read this
Now, if one of you industrious types would pull your center console and see what is really going on down there, see if spray or brush on rubber electrical sealer would be in order, or maybe just a bead of silicone in the tray below the cup holder?
Loaner car is a TSX, the wife already loves the dual side's control on the heater system, but it pales in compare to the beloved TL.
Hopefully this new trans will also cure the 23 mpg!
