Yes it is normal, for my car anyways. Safety feature within the alarm system I think. if the door is closed, it will do that. If the door is open, then it shouldn't lock. Don't know about the starter though. Mine takes a little more time sometimes, but it doesn;t bother me much.

Mine don't on my 2003, and they didn't on my 2000 until I put in a car starter...dunno if it was the way the installer wired it in or what, but after that it'd lock on startup...

I was just reading the manual in my 2006 TL yesterday and I recall seeing an option where you can set the computer to lock the doors when the vehicle hits 10 miles per hour. I don't recall the other options but check your manual and you'll see what other options are available to set.

Well when I start the car its seems like it struggles! also when the door locks it doesnt sound the same when you use the switch on the door it sounds very weak. ( I dont know how to explain it)
