Another Gas Question

More and more gas stations are putting more Ethanol in their tanks, which is causing me some problems. I now have to stay away from 2 gas stations because their gas is killing me. I barely made it home yesterday with all my warning lights on( check engine, vsa ) because of bad gas. What will happen if all the gas companies follow suit and use a higher percentage of Ethanol?Yesterday I put in 93 octane and added an octane booster but still later on my car freaked out. I had to go to Shell this morning and fill up again and now everything is good except my check engine light is still on. Is there any adjustments we can do?

?? I stay away from gas stations with it. My car gets about 60 miles less per tank when using gas with 10% Ethanol is a joke and needs to be removed from gas period. E85 is a larger joke

The problem is the one's closest to me are using this crap. I gotta feeling they'll all eventually start using this crap. I thought all gas had a certain % of ethanol though

Don't they have it on a sticker on the pump to indicate the percentage of ethanol? Our cars can't take more than 10 or 15% ethanol (don't recall which) or it could do damage to rubber components in the fuel system - and could promote rusting of metal parts.

Is it possible your car has a legitimate engine problem that you are blaming on bad gas?

Doubt it..It has only happened to me when I have added the " no name" brand gas companies in my tank, but as soon as I went to Shell on both occassion my car seems to say thank you.

This is kind of related. Does anyone know why California only gets 91 octane for premium? Also does anyone know what kind of additives we have?

Alaska sucks, since alaskas now considered a clean air enviroment, gas stations dont have to offer over 90 octane so theres no incentive for anyone to do it. Now all we get is 87,88.5,89,90. Too bad for all those boosted cars here, having to add octane booster to their tanks or else they knock

yeah, i had a similar problem once. i filled up at shell, and soon after i threw a code P0171 i think, and it was saying fuel system lean. everything was working fine though ie O2, etc. i burned through that tank as fast as i could, filled up with mobil and added some octane booster, and later i think i threw some fuel system cleaner (sittin around the house). a week or 2 later it cleared the code, and been running smooth since.

In GA i only use gas station that has TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.
(QT, BP, SHELL, & AMCO)

To tell you the truth i never check Ethonal % at the gas station.

All gas stations are supposed to post if they are using 10% or more
