Smile Ambient Console Lighting

Hey guys, I have been searching around the forums for few days to see if there were any DIY for the ambient lighting over the shifter (like how the bmw's have it) but havent been able to find one.

Now I been thinking about going through with this project myself but aside from taking the paint off the shift gate and making it chrome, I havent done anything regarding electrical/lights.

My question is what is the best way install this lighting. I want it so its on during night only and not all the time (unless theres no worries about overheating the bulb).

Would you guys suggest I put the light in the sunglass holder and drill some small holes to shine down or put them inbetween the map lights?

1) How would I go about hooking up the ambient light to the driver side sunvisor light?

2) Would I have to take the interior roof piece off to get at the wiring?
3) How would I actually connect the wiring?
4) What size bulb is recommended? I'm not looking for something to bright.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well.. .

A) You would have to take of the console
B) There are two wires there already for the lighting purposes ( Behind the console )
C) Autolumination.com , a site where you can find tons of bulbs.
D) Good Luck, and if you do decide to go through this project, pictures and updates along the way.

also if u wanted to wire to the visor you do not need to take the headliner out to get to the wiring...once u take out the visor you will see the wires for it

You can always stealth fit low power leds in your rear view mirror since there is a power source inside of it.
I plan on doing this by taking the mirror apart and drilling small holes to fit the leds. flush mount leds are probably the best thing to go with since they glow and not beam the light like acrylic dome leds.

Sounds like this mod should be fairly easy but i wouldn't really now how to do it off the top of my head. Seems like it should be easy enough to accomplish though. Let us know how it goes. You may be the first to do this mod.

I'm not sure how useful it would be, but I'm interested nonetheless. Can't wait to see what you put together.
